• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

oh my, I found it right away! (miracle!)

2 Cor 1
7and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.

8For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; 9indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;

I think this teaches us that we can be given more than we can bear just so we do not trust in ourselves, but have to reach to God to lift us up.

I would think that would prove God's power, existance and capability to us when we're helpless.

thank you so much sister...what a blessing!

Though we may go through fearful times...When we seek Him...He is always there...BIGGER than ever...for the big things and the small things!

:amen:

Thank you sister!

I was going to use that but I thought people would complain with the bloody eye & all.
LOL (or is that red food colouring from the fish?)

If pain is fear leaving the body, that red stuff is heresy leaving the Christian. ^_^

YW! I still can't believe I actually found that verse at all.. I expected to look for days.

I actually wish it said that we won't go thru more than what we're capable of handling.
It hasn't happened often in my lifetime, but I did get to a place where it was too much to handle and it just didn't stop coming either - one thing after another.
Finally I had to look in the bible to see if God really did give us only as much as we could endure. I kept thinking to myself "well, if God is allowing this to keep heaping up on me and I haven't turned into a vegetable eating pudding in front of the tv 24/7 yet - then I must be one strong person to be able to endure all this"...

Once I found out He allows more than we can handle, it made alot more sense to me then.
Even when it's gotten that bad for me, I still think of poor Job!!! Has anybody had it as bad as Job?

Yes, I totally agree and have learned a lot here.

I think...when it comes to trials, testing, temptation...anything really...the better phrase would be:

"God doesn't give us anything GOD can't handle"

:amen:

Php 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
Php 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Maybe that's what alot of what God allows to happen is for? So that people will seek Him when it's beyond themselves?

But I do know for sure that sin and our own terrible decisions cause alot of our unecessary pain & suffering too, I rarely see it as God 'doing' this to people.

Yep...I tend to view things as God "filtered" that He allows certain things because there is a greater good...

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Hey! It used to be believed that "bleeding people out" was good for their health. I have no problem with that line of thinking when it comes to heretics. ^_^

Thank you so much for responding...wonderful Scripture.

We went through a hurricane here recently...Our property was not damaged a whole big bunch...Amazingly...we didn't lose one branch from any of our rather large trees...but most of our neighbors had sever damage to their trees and some light damage to their homes. We have very minor damage to our roof...

...but Hurricane Ike did some severe damage in other areas...especially in Galveston and along the coast.

We were very blessed we only lost power and water for less than 48 hours...but some areas still do not have power.

Through this all we are so grateful and thankful...and prayerful for those who experienced so much loss.

this and a few other things that have been happening lately keeps bringing me back to the thought "God doesn't give us more than we can handle"...and I realized I have no idea why I consider this as I can't recall or find the Scripture that teaches this.

So I posted this thread....hoping others would share their thoughts and the Scripture that reminds us how full of compassion, grace and mercy is our great God...to meditate on and share with others as we go about recovering from the hurricane.

Thank you so much!

Blessings!

Hi Cris so glad your all alright. Praise God

It seems I have seen a scripture before that speaks to God not giving us more than we can handle, but I cannot think of one except for the one you already posted. I'll keep looking.

I think that even being taken to the edge of what you can handle would be a lot. This fallen, broken world we're temporarily stationed at can dole out a whole lot of suffering for believer and unbeliever a like. The believer has God to turn to, the unbeliever does too and I think that often it is this suffering that makes the unbeliever seek God.

The fist verse that came to my me was the one Nadiine also shared so maybe it's a confirmation. 2 Corinthians 1 shows us there will be suffering, and teaches that God is the Father of mercies, our great deliverer! The whole chapter is awesome on this subject.

2 Corinthians 1:3-11
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation. 8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us from so great a death, and does* deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, 11 you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our* behalf for the gift granted to us through many.

For believers the comfort of knowing the Holy Spirit is with us is huge and so is the knowledge that this life should end and even better one begins.

For the unbeliever, I know so many people who did not turn towards Jesus until either the world or their own choices brought them to rock bottom. I know I brought some pretty harsh and down right difficult times on myself before recommitting to Jesus and during that time the world dealt me some pretty rough blows on top of the consequences I'd earned, but this only made the realization that I needed Jesus greater and more clear. The fact that Jesus delivered me in some cases, comforted me in others and healed my heart was conformation that I made the right choice by choosing Him as my Lord and Savior.

I am so thankful to have Jesus to turn to now. I don't think I could face or even survive a serious hardship without Him by my side. :amen:
