I'm sorry but this whole thing just sounds absolutely rediculous.
The whole thing seems pretty pointless if you don't believe the fall to be literal.

Perhaps you could articulate why you think so.

Why waste your time with it if you pick out what parts you believe?

Who is picking which parts to believe?

Accept Jesus so you don't go to hell for eternity.

It would seem that rather than look to see at the variety of answers you might get, you've chosen to largely ignore anything that didn't conform to some preconceived notions you already had.

As an example, perhaps you could point out where in any of my answers to your question I said "accept Jesus so you don't go to hell".

Doesn't the whole thing fall apart without a literal Adam?

Adam is a true figure by the human account of genealogy mentioned in the Bible.

The big picture is, God will build an eternity (called heaven) where humans and angels will live with God happily forever. Faith and obedience are the 2 factors crucial for creatures of freewill to be in this eternity. Law is set forth as a measurement of who should be qualified (i.e., under open witnessing) to enter this eternity.

Eden is more like an emulated heaven where God showed through Adam that humans cannot be directly brought to heaven as their freewill may choose to sin. God also showed that Adam sinned due to the lack of faith in God and the lack of obedience to the Word of God.

God is so incompatible with sin that Adam thus would have to be driven out of Eden (God's realm). Since then humans are no longer inside God's realm. Humans are in a realm where Satan is said to be the god here. If Adam as a son of God sinned inside God's realm as tempted by Satan, then it's natural that humans will have to sin in Satan's realm here on earth. No one can be righteous in front of God's Law (a measurement to qualify humans for entering heaven). That's why humans are called sinners, and sinners cannot be brought back to God's realm (the Law blocked them outside God's realm).

However and out of love, God didn't abandon us the sinners. He thus sent Jesus Christ to atone for our sin such that we the sinners can still have a chance to re-enter God's realm (heaven).

If I were to accept this it sounds as if I trust Jesus took on my punishment, so basically I have a free pass to do anything I want. Nevermind what is actually right and wrong.
Oh, definitely not. Christians must obey God, which often means putting what we want second.

So if Adam's sin was passed on to the rest of humanity Jesus would also have inherited it meaning he is not without sin.
Nope, since Christ was not conceived in the natural way, he didn't inherit original sin.

Honestly this whole thing sounds very hard to believe. I really don't understand how this works. Actions aren't inherited... If my father is a murderer that does not make me a murderer.
And the Bible teaches as much. Original sin is a corruption of our nature, rather than simplistically saying that we bear the blame for Adam's eating the fruit at the beginning.

OK... I've read some answers. The whole thing makes no sense... Supposedly Adam "sinned"... (Who determined what sin is?) What does Adam's actions have to do with anyone else? So God holds grudges?

A sin is a violation of God's rule so He determined what sin is.
If I were to accept this it sounds as if I trust Jesus took on my punishment, so basically I have a free pass to do anything I want. Never mind what is actually right and wrong.

This is not what the Bible says. If you decide to love the triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and believe in Him the way Christians do, you will not want to sin so much anymore. Becoming a Christian makes you a better person if you do not just believe, but also follow God.
So if Adam's sin was passed on to the rest of humanity Jesus would also have inherited it meaning he is not without sin.

Jesus is not just another human though. He is the Son of God. There is no reason to believe in a God who sins. Jesus is made perfect because he is both fully human (from Mary) and fully God (from the Father).
Honestly this whole thing sounds very hard to believe. I really don't understand how this works. Actions aren't inherited... If my father is a murderer that does not make me a murderer.

But your father is a sinner, and you are a sinner. The way God sees it, sin is sin and a lie is the same as a murder when it comes to punishment. We are all sinners.

It actually does sound like primitive superstition.
Accept Jesus so you don't go to hell for eternity.
It sounds like a scare tactic to indoctrinate children and get life long followers. It seems to work.
It seems the answer to my question lies in mythology and superstition.
Thanks for your answers everyone.

You never know :p
