• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

they're nothing but selfish, self-centered, uncompassionate, heartless, monsters...

I am wondering if those people have any medical issues. If they really are bullies, or if they are suffering with issues.

For instance, there was a guy who for years thought his brother was a monster until they found out he just had Autism and that his bad behavior wasn't his fault at all.

Hi,

What's going on that you're feeling this way? Has something happened? God bless you and I'm praying for you.

Faithfully,

People don"t realize how their words and actions hurt others. I was also bullied and sorry to say after thirty years still occasionally fight the mental battles it caused. Trying to put on the Mind of Christ as often as possible. Its a daily walk for me. Bless you!

The only reason you hate people (and I don't think you do) is because you know that they are capable of being compassionate, helpful, supportive, and understanding creatures rather than those with the attributes you listed.

The truth is we're not, by default, detestable beasts. We have the opportunity for good, or for evil. There are certain laws we are bound by, sure, but those laws don't imprison us in a way that we're forced to tear each other apart.

Re-evaluate your view of humans; are you simply picking out the bad qualities that hurt to focus on the negative, or is it truly this way?

And

Re-evaluate the people you surround yourself with. Satan is disguised an an angel of light. It's easy to say "Ok I know that person's not good, they're hooked on crack and steal my jewelry," but much of the time the people that seem "harmless" or who "want to help you" are actually feeding into the problem.

Just my opinion.

I battle with this thought often and it can put me really down. I think the world would be a much better place if everyone did their bit to avoid hurting another person. I try to remind myself that God loves us all and it's their sins/behaviors we should hate not the individual. We don't know what goes on in their heads. I believe people who hurt others have been hurt themselves and didn't address the pain properly.

This is a poem I really like by Dr. Kent M. Keith which was found on the wall of Mother Teresa's children's home in Calcutta:

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered;
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight;
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them;
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth;
Give the world the best you have anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

The last 2 lines have been added by an unknown person (often mistakenly Mother Teresa)

I respect your opinion, but it's not what I need. Thank you anyways

Forgive me...you're right.

I did say it with the intent to help, and I still back it up, but at the same time, I often try to fix people's problems. I do it with heart...I just don't want them to suffer. But it often backfires.

All that aside, even though I agree with what I said (for me, anyways), I also understand where you're coming from. I don't know the details in the situation but I know that sometimes, people just...suck.

Just know that they're not all bad and it gets better.

I don't like most people either. I see the devil in just about everyone. They can say they love you, that they'd never leave you, that you'd never let them down, but one day it always happens and they leave you. :( That's how it feels, I hope I don't offend but I've been let down by someone lately (real-life). Heck, maybe I let them down too.

That's a very interesting point. I sometimes struggle with hating people, so I took a note of this. Thanks!
