I had an interesting experience last week. One of our older members suffered a heart attack and I went to the hospital to visit him. He was in ICU and his son, “Bob”, also a member, was there. One of the older man’s daughters, sister to Bob, was there. She has been involved in a small faith fellowship (at least they boast of being a “faith church”) in the DFW area for awhile, and she was on a tear, “rebuking Satan” from her father, “taking authority” over sickness, issuing “commands of faith” for him rise and walk, “standing in faith” against the devil, etc. etc.—all to no avail. She was a little put out when my wife and I arrived at the hospital. Since this was the first time we had ever met her (to my knowledge), I was a bit surprised at the animosity that spilled from her but chose to ignore it.

A few minutes later, when visiting hours arrived, she went back to ICU and we soon followed with Bob. Their father was swollen, looked comatose and had all kinds of monitors and tubes running from him. Bob invited her to stay while we prayed for their father. She flared up and said she didn’t want to stay “and hear this sh**!” (??) and then stormed out of ICU. So, we prayed a simple prayer for healing, submitted the prayer to the will of the Lord, and left the room so that other family members could visit. A few minutes later Bob appeared in the waiting room and said that the moment we had completed our prayer and left the room, their father had immediately opened his eyes, asked for the remote control to the TV and sat up in the bed.

When Bob spoke to his Charismatic sister, telling her what happened, she responded, “F*** you!” and stormed off.

That family situation has not healed, unfortunately, and I am sure there is more to it than we know, but their father should be released from the hospital later today.

Please, don’t make something out of this it is not, but I would like to hear your comments.

First,

Good to see you brother, I think of you daily.

Second,

Glad to hear that Bob's father is doing better, Praise God for that.

Third,

That poor girl sounds like she has some serious issues. She obvioulsy has some pain and unforgiveness in her to lash out that way. She probably uses religion as a cover for it (IOW to justify it). Definitely not a shining example of the many good brothers and sisters in the faith camp.

nothing stranger than family dynamics - even amongst those who profess Jesus as Lord. Also shows you can spout and blame the devil all you want, but if it is not his doing, there is little point.

everyone gets ill. some get ill becuase that is the nature of life (so says Ecclesiastes) and some get ill so God's power can be displayed. It takes discernment to know which is which, not theology.

I don’t know Jim, It sounds like a demonic manifestation to me. Not every “Jesus” is the one we know and love.

In any event, I’m glad God touched the man, I pray he touches the girl as well

Hey Jim, it's good to see you again. :)

It seems to me that perhaps there are some family issues that the young woman was hoping to one-up by her prayer being the one that would raise her father from his bed. It's hard to say what could have been going through her mind. Maybe her family has criticized and/or expressed concern over her involvement in the "faith fellowship". She sounds hurt.

I think you are right. Later that night (while I was, in of all places, the bathtub) I think the Lord spoke to me and told me that she was demonized at some level and acting out and that I should convey that to Bob with a caution that demons were deceptive and might feign humility or even repentance in his sister to throw him off guard, now that they knew someone was on to them. My wife told me that she had sensed the same thing. So, the next day I told Bob that and, sure enough, his sister came to him later that evening to say she was sorry for acting up.

I may be wrong about it being a word from the Lord, the sister being demonized and later feigning repentance … but I don’t think so.

So the girl is upset, having fought in prayer for her father's life, and "acts" a bit difficult, then apologises, but everyone justs says, ahah, false repentance!

Nice. What the heck is she supposed to do to receive any kind of love?

Blessed is God who answers despite some of our prayers, praise to Him for the healing!

Praise God that he is healed!

I agree. But the man’s life was already in the hands of the Lord and I feel that he was spared with or without our prayer. IMO, God is doing something else, something deeper and more eternal, in that family besides just physically healing the father. Time will tell. In the meantime, we trust.

We visited him about an hour ago and he said that while the whole thing was happening he looked at his son from his sickbed and saw an orange glow around Bob that no one else in the room saw. Bob thought his father was hallucinating. His father said he believed it was a “sign,” and angel even, telling him that everything was going to be alright.

*****

But she is loved.

By her whole family. It is her brother that is feeling unloved.
