Are you asking why priests started teaching in Latin? And why the Bible was written in Latin?

Latin was the language of the Roman Empire. The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin so everyone could understand it.
Latin was the language of Europe and the Church for many years.

The Catholic Church was the first church to translate the Bible into "common people's" languages.

What do you mean when you say people only know English before King James? What people? When? Where?

You need to write clearer, it is hard to understand what you are saying.

There were some English translations before Luther. When the printing press was invented not too many years before Luther, the first thing published was the SScriptures. Many different versions were printed. But that didn't matter much since most people couldn't read. When the printing press came into existence, more middle-class people learned to read. Poor people didn't have that option.

BTW, AxA, at Mass, the priests preached in English and explained the SScrptures to the people.

You do realize that an english translation of the Bible came out before the KJV, right? It was called the Douay-Rheims. As a matter of fact, the translators of the KJV acknowledge this and other vernacular (language for the common people) translations as inspiration for them and their undertaking.

This thread disproves your claim: Case Study #2 - Church Never Used Vernacular Translations of the Bible

Sounds to me like your girlfriend wants to do what you would find pleasing. I, persomally think with a girl of 16 you would be most right in encouraging her to honor her parents wishes and her family faith. Encourage her to read the Bible, etc. But for you to participate in helping her dishonor her parents- you are helping her sin. Now, I know that Jesus comes to tear families apart, but we must also be honorable towards our families. If y'all are still together when she is no longer a minor, and she still has a desire to leave the Church, while I disagree, I don't think it is as serious of an issue. I would encourage her to learn about her faith - to listen to or to read Scott Hahn or Fr. Larry Richards (they're both available on audio for free @ Catholocity.com)

She may be feeling a little left out and in need of love because of a new baby coming- and so she will turn to you because you are available to fill that need.

Also if you approach dating as Christian coutrship- question whether or not her parents would approve of you encouraging her to leave the Church. If you treat her as the one you will potentially marry, it seems to me that clearly her parents would not want her leaving the Catholic Church, particularly over crying telephone calls. If you do believe what you wrote that Catholics can be saved, the right thing to do here is to encourage her to live out that salvation as a Catholic while she is still subject to her parents authority.

Here are some point I either disagree with or need more info about_:

- Praying to mary/asking for help from mary and other priests.
We venerate Mary because she is the mother of our Lord, and since Jesus is God (because the Holy Trinity can not be divided) you could say that Mary is the Mother of God! Luke1:28, 30 tells us that the angel said to Mary that she was 'full of grace' and had 'found favour with God'...Luke 1:42 tells us that she is the 'most blessed among women'...and Luke1 48: that 'all generations will call me (Mary) blessed"...Elizabeth herself refers to her cousin Mary as the "Mother of my Lord".

Mary hold's a very special place in the teaching of the Church and within our hearts, she is a wonderful example of allowing God's will to be done in all thing's....she gave herself completely to the will of God~ how many of us can say the same about ourselves?

When we say the Hail Mary prayer, the words are taken from Sacred Scripture (as i have quoted above), we are not adding bit's on, we are reitterating that which has been spoken by those far greater than ourselves.

When we call upon the Saints and Mary, we ask them to intercede for us.. now this isn't something mystical, almost every christian i know asks for intercession, wether Catholic or not! Asking your Mum or a friend to pray for you is intercession....We believe that those who reside with the Father are not dead and lifeless, but are fully alive in Heaven, that they reside with the Father and that they can hear our prayers, that's why we ask for their intercession. there are plenty of SS references i can give you to back this up if you like..but i don't want to bog you down with stuff unless you want it.

- The crusifix instead of the cross (minor disagreement)
Biblically based:

1 Corinthians 1:23
...but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles...

1 Corinthians 2:2
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

- Praying to mary/asking for help from mary and other priests.

- Confession to priests

- Why Priest started teaching in Latin/bible was wrote in latin while the people only knew english back in day before king james.

- The crusifix instead of the cross (minor disagreement)

- The popes and the catholics hierarchys actions and reputation it has made for itself (the sexual actions and actions done because of it).
Bear in mind that these are a LOT of issues to cover in one post.

I am going to give you some links that explain and defend each of these practices. They are short and easy to read, so I hope you'll take advantage of them.

1. Saintly intercession
http://www.catholic.com/library/Praying_to_the_Saints.asp
http://www.catholic.com/library/Intercession_of_the_Saints.asp

2. Sacramental Confession

Looks like the crucifix and Bible issues have already been covered for you.

Regarding the sex abuse scandal, Philip Jenkins, a non-Catholic did a study showing that there was no higher rate of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church than in Protestant groups. What is at issue here is media frenzy and classic anti-Catholic stereotypes of priests as predatory animals.

And no, no actions have been done "because" of the Church, they have been done in spite of her.

I'm glad you're here, trying to learn. We welcome you!
