• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

God is dealing with me, about this disgusting, smelly habit & I find your post inspiring! THANK YOU for sharing so honestly! I currently have a friend who is refusing to let me in his vehicles because of the smoke smell & it's bothering me~A LOT! One of the hardest things is trying to UNDERSTAND! I know my clothes, shoes., purse & everything I OWN needs fumagating! Febreeze helps, but this is going to be a MASSIVE undertaking!
Please pray for me to get the revelation & guidance & strength I need to let God do this for me. I'll cooperate to the best of my ability. I can't afford to smoke, anyway!

I had a relapse over Labor Day Weekend, but am back starting over--its easier this time cause the "habit" was not as bad, but I realize this is as addictive as heroin. It only takes one ONE to bring you right back to full blown addiction. The flesh is weak, I thought I had it and a trigger got the best of me..

The devil nor phillip morris really want you to quit. I say we fight till we win.. :))

Prayers really welcome!

Prayers for all of you trying to quit  You will eventually find the method that works for you, although as I'm sure you're all finding out, the main thing is willpower. I don't know where it comes from, but boy, I know that if I could bottle it and sell it, I'd be a rich woman. I tried and tried umpteen times to give up smoking, I lost count of the number of times. I read every book, tried every method, in the end I know it came down to willpower - and I wish I could tell you the secret of obtaining that. Obviously, prayer is essential for God to grant you the desire to quit, and the willpower to see it through. I quit 6 years ago now, after having smoked 20+ cigarettes / day for 19 years. I do remember how hard it was, and how much I would beat myself up when I failed once again. But I do truly believe that each person has to find their own path out of this addiction, and that the Lord is the main stay of any attempt. God bless you all, I will keep praying for you, because I know how hard it is.

I also have lacked the willpower to quit; on one hand I know it is bad for my health but on the other it is such a social part of my life. I want to live healthy as long as I can so I desire to quit but have not been able to find the will power to do it. I am going to start to tommorow; anyone else ready to try and quit also?

Best advice is, when you get the URGE, distract yourself with some other form of entertainment. It will pass over, and yes use the patchs etc, They'll help. If you think about the urge too much, it will overcome you. Do not have a defeatist attitude about quitting, you have to make a commitment and stand by it and say/think "I WILL QUIT".

If any poster live in the Uk or any plan on visiting 1st July smoking ban comes into force, which means you can only smoke in your own homes, in the street or special shelters at pubs. so if you want to give up this ban should go along way to help.
