• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey,
I am in a difficult place now. I have been addicted to masturbation for quite a while. First it started impure thoughts, now it seems I'm beginning to want to go further. I just recently looked at a pornographic movie is order to please myself. I seriously don't understand why this has become so hard for me to control. I have everything covered by anti porn programs, and now I'm going to have to lock my xbox. The problem is, I know the temptation is still there. If i'm desperate enough, I find a way to find more. I really need to do something about this before I dig myself a deeper hole.

You sound alot like me man, i was once addicted to porn very much also but yet thoughts of releasing bad spirirts into my home which could harm me and my character and then eventually my loved ones scared me away from it. I did this on a daily basis because I believed that it was harmless where as I began to realize that it was affecting my character for the bad so I have recently stopped and I can say its very hard to resist masterbating whether its to porn, naked images, your girlfriend, or for me even booty shaking videos. Until I suddenly realized that it was having a hold on my life and caused me too mistreat others that never should be mistreated because of how much they love me and do things for me. I had slipped a few times recently yet I repented and asked for god's forgiveness because the blessings and happiness I once had was haulted in that short period of time.So im letting you know(coming from the same state that if you want to stop you have to make the effort just like I am as of right now.

Maybe you are being too hard on yourself? The strength of sin is in the law (1 Cor. 15:56), and I suppose that if you are just focusing on how bad you are breaking the law then you are just making it harder on yourself. Maybe you should focus more on our victory over sin through Christ - that b faith through Christ we are forgiven all our sins and are made righteous in His sight.

Although that may be true because I use to focus on the same principles that he will be always forgive so it's ok. Yet if you keep doing it with that mindset its like youre using it as a crutch. Picture or imagine the sperm youre pretty much wasting that could form into beautiful children. Yet I dont think it's the act thats too bad yet the thoughts that you get from doing it, can cause you too become very manipulative when it comes to getting what you want. :/

Why don't you get married?

You must avoid proximate occasion to the sin of impurity; people, places, TV channels and be prudent when you are using the internet. Before you use any of these, pray, short meditation and recollection or selfcontrol. Use it only when your family and friends are around. Don't play with fire, you will get burned.

Usually the devil (and sometimes it is ourselves and our body) first suggests an impure thought and if you don't rejected it imedietlly the temptetion will turn into passion; an urge to sin. An urge to sin is not a sin it is an opportunity to grow in grace and Christian virtue and valor. Put up a fight when tempted. Prayer, avoiding proximate occassions to sin, prudence, work, friendships will keep you body, thoughts and desires in check.

This book will be very helpfull to you:
Chastity: A guide for Teens and Young Adults by Fr. Gerald Kelly. This book clearly explains; True Friendship, Choice of a Marriage Partner, General Attraction, Personal Attraction, The Meaning of Chastity...

Hi,
I was brought up in the Christian faith. I was addicted to the sexual sin of masturbation for 8 years. I tried so hard to give up, but could not. One day I just decided to give up on Christianity and was ready to go to hell. That day, Jesus Christ intervened in my life and led me to an online ministry called Setting Captives Free (type this on google to reach their website which is free to join). The Lord Jesus gave me victory over masturbation from day one of this course- way of purity. Jesus has completely set me free. It's been two years now and God has completely set me free since day one of the course. Only the Holy Spirit can give you power to live a life of victory over sexual sin. The cause of this. Sin - I used to watch dirty movies. I have totally cut out all sources of sin from my life. The Bible tells us to flee from sin. Pl email me at rose_sharon10atrediffmaildotcom. I will be really glad to pray for you and help you lead a Holy life for the glory of God.
God bless,
Sharon
