I am writing from South Africa.
I was retrenched in June because of the Covid 19 crisis worldwide and has put everything on hold.

Millions of people have lost their jobs because of the pandemic and prior to the pandemic South Africans already struggled to find work.

I feel extremely lost in what to do going forward, I am struggling to find work and I have no clue on how to bring in some money, it's taking strain on my marriage as well. I feel lost and don't see a way out of this. My husband wants me to do something from home, I have done some research on selling some basic items for a profit but I don't feel it will be enough. What I really need is a job and with the crisis we're in, it just doesn't feel like there's going to be way out any time soon.

I also feel extremely depressed and have absolutely no joy. I feel invaluable without my job and my husband thinks I'm useless.

I don't know what to do.

This can happen to people who have very well-paying jobs.

So, the COVID-19 thing has only helped to expose a problem you already have.

And you need to solve that problem, now, whether you have money and your husband's approval, or not . . . in my opinion, for you to test for yourself, in prayer.

God bless you . . . but yes do what you can to find out how God will take care of your job thing and your relating with your husband. He can be wrong, too; so have compassion and forgiveness for him, and hope for him also to grow in Jesus so problems can not decide how you two are and how you relate.

Have you read and fed on what happened to Paul? 2 Corinthians 12:7-15. He went through horrible and impossible things, but then he had a little talk with Jesus, and what Jesus said is what worked.

Be careful who you listen to!!

...

I feel extremely lost in what to do going forward, ...

I also feel extremely depressed and have absolutely no joy. I feel invaluable without my job and my husband thinks I'm useless.

I don't know what to do.

When I'm feeling depressed and without joy, I turn to the Bible. Sometimes I read them, but when I'm particularly depressed I cannot read. So I seek out hymns that I can listen to or sing. Often I will meditate and pray a Psalm that I can remember - like Psalm 23.

"The Lord is my shepherd ..."

The Lord who is present with you and me in the Word; is present with you in that Word objectively, without dependence on how you feel. The Lord is present with you in the hymns you sing and listen to, through faith. When you believe what he says about himself and about you, he is with you.

This Lord who is present with you is your shepherd. He is your protector, your nurturer. And he sets a table for you in the presence of your enemy. At this table he serves you his own body and blood in the Sacrament of the Altar. And he gives you grace and mercy.

And he has said these things about you:
  • He loves you - and the most clear statement of this is the cross
  • He has adopted you as his own daughter
  • He has promised to be faithful to you

These are the most true, truths about you.

The Lord, who suffered, is with you in your suffering.

I would take on any possibility of making money. Try to do what your husband wants to do from home and search for a job along with that, as long as they can both be tackled reasonably.

IOW, do all you can, all you know to do.

Praying is fine, but God gave us the intelligence to make it, so take full advantage of that gift, and once one has done all they can, and if there is still a problem, pray harder.

Keep on keeping on.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. I’m truly sorry for what you are going through. These forums are great for sharing burdens, venting, and asking for advice. In regards to your situation, let me tell you my sister in Christ that you’re not alone. You are right in what you are saying that millions of citizens worldwide are suffering the same situation as you are. Most never imagined such the virus outbreak as you mentioned. In regards to your husband, I encourage you to pray God to ask Him wisdom that you can find a right moment to open your heart to your DH and talk to him about your feelings. Have you encouraged him to realize the situation that you’re not the only one that’s suffering from the unemployment and that he should be patient with this? Perhaps have you thought of starting a manufacturing business or distributor of masks, gloves or other hygiene products that society can benefit from? Or have you thought of looking into advertisement products such as producing banners to open businesses for example, ideas I type here to give you ideas of how to encourage you. But I’m sure that you can ask to the Holy Spirit give you ideas and use your talents for the major glory of Our Lord. Please do not feel discourage! Hang in there! Do not hear bad thought that do not allow your to move forward. God is so good with all his children. He is working in silence in favor of us. I encourage you to put all your trust in Him. I encourage you to seek a life of prayer on your own and ask God to help you in this difficult situation. I have a friend who lost his job, is a man of faith and after he realized that he was under that tribulation, he did not consent to discouragement and then was able to find employment in a very short time because my friend put all his trust in Jesus. Remember, everything is possible for God. God is a God specialist in doing impossible things. And I know from my experiences that sometimes we do not know how to handle suffering. It is neither good or bad, however if we embrace our suffering it can transform us and lead us closer to God. Suffering is a way to love Jesus and we can join our suffering to his cross and offer them for reparation of our sins, the conversion of sinners and in reparation for the sins of the whole world. Let me tell you my sister in Christ even in the darkest moments, there’s always hope. It is time to repent and turn to God. Since God is pleased that you want to get closer to Him, there is a spiritual enemy that is attacking you to try to get you away from Him. In the Book Romans 8, 15 it says: For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, Abba, Father“. Have you thought of seeking Christian counseling or therapy to help you find ways to overcome what is causing depression? Christian counseling works through things like this. You are valuable and worthy of fighting for. When it is time to go to bed, I encourage you to find something to read that take your mind off any concerns, worries, or problems. On the other hand, I encourage you to put your life in God’s hands, He is in control of everything and you need to be confident that He will not allow that nothing happen to you. Another way to calm your anxiety is praying Psalms, especially 91, Our Heavenly Father has beautiful promises to us. I’d like to share with you Psalm 91:

You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High,

who abide in the shade of the Almighty,

Say to the LORD, “My refuge and fortress,

my God in whom I trust.”

He will rescue you from the fowler’s snare,

from the destroying plague,

He will shelter you with his pinions,

and under his wings you may take refuge;

his faithfulness is a protecting shield.

You shall not fear the terror of the night

nor the arrow that flies by day,

Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness,

nor the plague that ravages at noon.

Though a thousand fall at your side,

ten thousand at your right hand,

near you it shall not come.

You need simply watch;

the punishment of the wicked you will see.

Because you have the LORD for your refuge

and have made the Most High your stronghold,

No evil shall befall you,

no affliction come near your tent.

For he commands his angels with regard to you,

to guard you wherever you go.

With their hands they shall support you,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.

You can tread upon the asp and the viper,

trample the lion and the dragon.

Because he clings to me I will deliver him;

because he knows my name I will set him on high.

He will call upon me and I will answer;

I will be with him in distress;

I will deliver him and give him honor.

With length of days I will satisfy him,

and fill him with my saving power.

Finally, this list-ly is extremely important for you are going through: Battling Depression | A Listly List. Please let me tell you my friend that you are not alone in this battle. I’d like to share with you this verse from Romans 8, 38-39: “What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us”. Sending you hugs and I will keep you in my prayers my sister in Christ.

One of the first things the Lord did when I got saved was to get me the best job I ever had.
The
Korean wife of a friend made Money sewing leather and cloth gloves for hardware stores. Do you have any hobbies that you do and could sell on the street. A lemonade stand even. You will be teaching us if this happens in our country. I do not know what I would do if we were any poorer. Take my own advice I guess. Do you need a license to purchase and sell ammunition? To hunters?
