  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel like a total loser but...

Memory Cards? I didn't need them for my old N-64. Why do I need them for the gamecube?

Do I need one for each and every game? I'm sorry, I haven't had much experience with the concept but it's a pain to have to start over from scratch every time I turn it on.

Give up the info... Anything and everything about NGC memory cards. Please? :)

I suggest buying an official Nintendo memory card. I bought a Mad Catz one and hardly had enough space on it.

Certain games take up a certain amount of blocks. Memory cards have only so many blocks of room. Now, a memory card must be in your gamecube when you save for it to save to the card (of course). When it saves onto there, it'll be there for good unless the file becomse corrupted (turning off the system while saving) or you delete it.

Pretty simple stuff. Just buy a Nintendo memory card, put it in the slot in your gamecube, and now you can save onto the card and you wont have to restart games cause the saved game will be there. :)

I agree with the Hobo on this one. Don't go third-party for your memory cards. It just isn't worth the risk.

The only memory cards I've ever had problems with were the third-party ones, and I ended up replacing them with the official type. All of that saved information, gone. Pay the extra $5 or so, and insure yourself.

If you plan on EVER owning pretty much any sports game, it's practically a must that you invest in the highest capacity card there is (I think the White ones. 1024 blocks. Can anyone else back me up on this?). I've got a 256 block, and with Madden 2005/Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing, the space gets eaten up quickly. It's only ten dollars more, and you get four times the space.

And actually, there was a memory card for the N64. Games like 'The World is Not Enough' required them to save. They were horrendously clunky, though.

As a general rule, CD/DVD based consoles REQUIRE a memory card.

Yep :) Okay, number one, do NOT I repeat do NOT buy any nintendo first party memory cards, buy cheaper ones that do exactly the same thing but are from 3rd party developers. Oh, and do NOT buy anything with less than 256 blocks okay?

The gamecube is tiny. Look at it. Do you think they are going to be able to fit a hardrive in it? Of course it needs memory cards. The reason the n64 USUALLY (I say usually because I had one game, snowboard kids, that needed it, I was too cheap and never got one, because the game was so easy I could clock it in one go) did not need memroy cards is because DUH what were the games on? CARTRIDGES! Now they're on tiny disks. (I wish they were still on cartridges, blah) So they can't afford to have the extra memroy for saving.

EDIT: Wow, people had problems with their memory cards? Once or twice mine went corrupt, but that didn't actually wipe the data. Here in NZ, its more than a $5 difference, more a $20-30 difference, so if its only $5, just go buy the first party ones. As long as its not 59 blocks. That can't even hold a full game of animal crossing! @__@

There wouldn't be any problem fitting a small hard drive in a GameCube, the problem is cost. Nintendo's getting a lot of their sales because of their significantly lower price point, ($100 CDN vs. $200 for an XBox or PS2), and an HD would add another $50 to the price.
