. . .but how do you get through the "boring" parts of the Bible when you're on a plan to read it all in a year?

By that I do not mean to demean or denounce the Word of God, I am just honestly admitting that there are some parts of it (the geneaologies, military censuses, accounting for what goes into and instructions on building things)that are somewhat boring and where my mind wanders after about a third of the chapter.

For now, I read only one chapter of something like that if it's really long or monotonous, then read 2 shorter ones elsewhere, and make up for it by reading more in a sitting when I have time or the subject matter is more compelling.

I'm saved, I know it, I'm not living in any pattern of habitual sin, and I try to pray before reading.

Yet I still get bored in these places. :p

(edited: I can't believe I missed that typo! >_< )

It is very hard to read a lot of the word at one time.

Reading your Bible through in a year is great!
But what is the rush?

I like to look in the concordance and find the subjects that interest or pertain to me in that part of my life. Devotionals and commentary's are also great tools to use when studying the word.

Two or three verses is enough to read in one day if you delve into the verses and walk away with something positive from it.

When you get bored take a break.

Best of luck!

read at the pace that you feel comfortable with, if you rushed, you may miss out on some really interesting parts. :) As for the boring bits like Chronicles for example (for me anyway), i skimmed read it the last time when i attempted to read the bible from cover to cover, but when i read it again, it's interesting to see the connection between the familes and how you get from one person to another, especially when an entire book was written by a specific person whose name is on the list.

i don't think it matters too much if you fell asleep on some parts, so long as you keep up the habit and really think on God's word, maybe the next time at a particular time, you'll be interested in these "boring" parts. :)

I found using a modern translation helpful. When I tried to read the Bible through in KJV I just got bogged down, but using the NLT (New Living Translation), which is a dynamic equivalence translation in modern English, I ended up reading from cover to cover in just 13 weeks! The fact that I could clearly understand everything without too much thinking meant that it was not mentally draining. When I hit boring bits I just forced myself to keep reading a fair bit each day and I soon got past them.
Of course, using a translation like this has problems, as there is an extra layer of auther interpretation, and you will miss things if you are not going to study each bit, which would take many years. But I would recomend reading the Bible right through to everyone, as it gives you a good idea of the whole sweep of scripture, and alows you to put bits that you do study in their proper context.
