  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know why it's bad!

Okay, solots of my friends are like atheists cos I used to be one too. But now I'm not, and I find it really hard sometimes eing around them. When I try and say that I think sex before marriage is wrong, and it's wrong to do things with yourself (if you know what I mean) they say it's not. I tell them it says it's wrong in the Bible, but then they ask HY God says it's wrong? Well why does he? I know he's God and all, and that means you live by his rules, but they say there are so many other poeple on the planet doing so many other things that there is no right and wrong. It's so confusing. Why is something that is natural wrong in God's eyes? Why did he make us want to do these things? I don't know what to tell them :help:

I don't know, myself. I face much the same problem myself, having a similar background. I just tell them it's because God says so, but they just won't believe! I heard something about spilling your seed on the groung being wrong, but there's so many interpretations. Onan refused to impregnate his brother's wife, so he took care of the situation by letting it hit the ground, not the girl. What if he just pulled out? How do we really know this is really "you know what"? What if it isn't wrong at all?

Well, if I am getting your question right, why does God say sex before marriage is wrong?
I would have to say that it is a sacred act to be committed between husband and wife. When we give ourselves freely to others outside of marriage, we are giving away the gift that was meant only for our spouse.
Also, when we are promiscious, sacred sex loses its specialness. People will consider sex to be love, which it is not. Sex should be the result of love.

I don't think the issue with Onan was that he spilled his seed so much as he blatantly disregarded a command from God. He disobeyed the Law of the time.
Masturbation is a very touchy topic with christians and you will get varying replys. I personally think its wrong because almost always there is lustful thoughts going along with it, including pornography. All sexual acts, in my opinion should remain between man and wife.

Really? That's interesting. Thanks. I thought I must jst be wrong because I couldn't find it. But my vicar is still sort of right isn't he, because I am supposed to tust him to interpret the Bible properly, right?

I dunno. I don't necessarily trust church people to interpret the Bible correctly; they often repeat what they were told by someone else who repeated it... It may not actually be true, just widely accepted.
