I just joined, and pretty much the only reason I did was because I have a few questions that are unanswered. I would ask my minister, or my Youth Group preacher, but I don't know there numbers, and I can't wait till Sunday. Ok so my first question is in the title, Is it a sin to cuss? My second question is; Is it ok if we don't Pray every night because we can't remember? Third question; Do pets go to heaven or hell? Yah I feel pretty stupid askin these questions but this site is all I got for answers.

Hey, it's good to have you here. I hope you get more out of joining than a few answers. Hang around a bit and join in the games and other conversations if you want to. :) Anyway, on to your questions.

First of all, I can think of a couple of Bible verses to help you with the first question. The first is Ephesians 4:29, which says "29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
The second is one of the ten commandments, which says not to say the Lord's name in vain.
So according to these scriptures, I would say, yes it is a sin to cuss/curse.

Second, I struggle with this as well. It is a good idea to try and spend some time with God each day. Sin is defined as anything that separates us from God, and when you don't talk to someone, you are technically sort of separating yourself from them. But I have a question for you: Are you talking about prayer as is a sort of ritual pray such as "Now I lay me down to sleep..." or are you talking about actually getting down and talking to God about actually real life stuff that is going on in your life? Because I feel like those ritualistic prayers don't really do anything; it's just something you do so you can check prayer off your list. Not saying that you are doing that, just trying to point something out.

Thirdly, I suggest you read the website in the link here: Do Pets Go To Heaven? EDIT: sorry wrong link. i updated it to the right one. ;)

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions and remain active here. :)

1. yes, we are commanded not to let any unwholesome speech come from our mouth. that includes any speech that doesn't encourage another person and uplift them in Christ, any that profanes or makes little of God, lies, or anything vile. you won't find a specific bible verse that says 'do not cuss' but we are told to honor God and reflect Christ through our speech.

another thing. a lot of shnardos always point out that the Bible uses words like harlot and 'crap' and damn. but when the Bible does, it uses the words in a proper way that illustrates a biblical principle, it doesn't use it just flippantly. (prophets call Israel a harlot, because that's the closest example of how they act towards God, paul calls his life before Christ 'crap' because that's what it was compared to knowing Christ...)

2. I can't say 'yes' or 'no' because 2 wrong assumptions can be made from me just leavin git as 'yes' or 'no'. if I were to say 'yes' it would seem as if I didn't think prayer was nearly as important as I think it is (and I STRONGLY believe in the importance of consistant and constant prayer). if I were to say 'no' then many people would see that as legalism and it would seem that I'm turning prayer into a checkbox for what I need to do every day. (which also, dillutes my view on how important I believe prayer to be.)

I really think a person who is currently walking with God will pray everyday. (bold statement) I take the Bible very seriously when it says to always let your thoughts be on things above, where Christ is. and if your thoughts are constantly on Christ throughout your day, how can you help but give thanks to God for every good thing that happens? how can you help but put EVERY care and anxiety before Him everytime something comes up?

and if a person isn't consistant and constant with prayer, it also tells you a lot about how they don't have a proper view of prayer. I mean... if you think about, you GET (ONLY because we as Christians have the right to because of Christ's merit) to TALK to God (same God that created the universe in 6 days, is in charge of EVERYTHING; from WW2 to the recession to the roll of a die, who is sovereign) and give our petitions to Him. now if a person doesn't take advantage of that.... that tells me that they have a very small view of God.

people don't naturally start praying all the time tho. the way I've seen it, it's a discipline that grows on a person. when I really started getting a good walk with God, I scheduled 2 times every day where I would pray and read the Bible. In the morning at 6, and for at least half an hour before I went to bed. What this did for me, was make it so even if I missed it in the morning for whatever reason, I would still definitely have a set-apart time at night. I wouldn't go a day without prayer and reading my Bible. later on, I wouldn't need to think of it as a 'scheduled time'. it was the first thing I wanted to do in the day, and the last thing I wanted to do before I went to bed. then, a few weeks later, I would find myself praying ALL THE TIME during the day, my thoughts would constantly be fixed on Christ.

3. lol, well I can only say that I am PRETTY DANG SURE that they don't. why? I don't believe animals have souls. animals have their own purpose, and they glorify God in their own way. We as humans glorify God whether by exemplifying his justice and wrath, or his love and mercy. and that is why humans go to heaven or hell.

To add on to what cake said in point 3, and to the link I posted in my first post, I do agree that pets do not have souls. That is what sets us apart from animals. When God created man, he said
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." (Genesis 1:26)

So he put animals below us. He made us for a relationship with Him, and he made animals for a relationship with us. But when animals didn't fully fill Adam's needs for a partner, he created Eve. But even still, animals are simply created as our partners (generalization, I guess... that's probably not their only purpose). Since he created animals for us, he did not give them souls because he did not create them as infinite beings as he created us. We are going to be around for ever, it's a question of living forever in Heaven or dieing forever in Hell. But that's off the point. As I believe it, no they do not. :/

My life has been saved by animals, they comfort me, and honestly, my reasons for saying they are my guardians is private that I don't want a site full of people knowing. And my reason for beleiving they have souls is because every person is different and every animal is different, and would an animal's cause be to save a life when it has never been trained as a rescue dog? No, animals have there reasons for doing things and honestly it's hard to put my explanation in words, you would have to be me to understand :(

i respect your opinion, no need to get defensive. I like animals as well (i had 2 dogs and one died so I was kinda struggling with this too for a while) and have heard stories of them saving peoples' lives without training.

but beyond the question of whether or not animals have souls, heaven and hell are places for humans to go depending on their decision of following Jesus as savior. Hell is punishment for man not seeking and believing in God. We cannot get to heaven without Jesus covering our sins. So how would most animals, which I might point out are unclean (aka impure) to Jews until the Book of Acts, be clean before God in order to get into heaven? On top of that, the sacrifice of a clean animal was required throughout the Old Testament for forgiveness of sins.
If God is love, how could he justify killing so many animals for humans if animals indeed have souls?

Like I said, just trying to bring up some questions from what I believe. You're fully entitled to your opinion. ;)

God bless!

Then what does happen when animals die? Do they just... disappear? Animals are concious beings with thoughts and feelings. Just because they can not speak doesn't mean that they are souless. Just because they may not be as smart as humans does not mean that they are souless, and in alot of cases I think that this is untrue. Animals do not judge, no matter who you are. They don't care if their owner is gay, or obese, or what religion or race they are. They are loyal regardless, and I think that this is reason enough to believe that animals have souls and would go to Heaven. I do not see why we should consider ourselves different.
I respect your views, ~Follower~.
Well, I would assume that animals rot in the ground just like our bodies do. But I firmly believe that God created us with souls and not animals. In Genesis 1, it says that into man, God breathed the breath of Life. He didn't do that for any other animal. Also, evolution teaches that we are evolved from animals, and therefore are animals, while the Bible teaches that we are above/we rule over animals.

As for your other questions- I know that there had been other answers but they didn't seem.... right. (And I'm going to try and give reasonable answers that will not insult or anything, just tell me if you disagree).

I haven't read the Bible or anything, and I don't pay attention in Religion classes, but from reading other peoples comments on the topic of 'cussing'; then it does appear to be classified a sin. But not necessarily a reasonable one.
I suggest you do sit down and read through it. Even if it seems boring it is a good book (especially since God was the one who inspired it).

[
For me, I don't even think before cusses spill over my lips. It is just a natural response for me when I do something like stub my toe or just talking normally - probably as a result of growing up with fowl mouthed boys as best friends and listening to music that screams swears and vindictive words.
I don't know if you are just curious about whether cussing is a sin or if you are actually afraid of what the outcome would be if you did swear. I'm just going to say- don't worry about it. Remember- that when the Bible was written it was pretty much a sin to step through a door way bacwards or something weird like that. Things have changed (for the better) and now cuss words are in books, on television, in music, everywhere. It's only normal to curse. And I doubt that God will send you to Hell for swearing. Thats just... stupid.
Ok, please don't start putting words in God's mouth. No it was not a sin to walk backwards through a door. In fact, nothing NEAR that was a sin. If you haven't read the Bible, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not say that it says something, especially if it does not say that.
But like I already said, in those two verses in my previous post, yes cursing is a sin. The actual word, if used properly, is not a sin, necessarily, but just throwing words out there isn't right. In fact, Matthew 12:36 says that "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken."
Even if you didn't mean it as a bad thing, you will have to give an account for every word you say.
As for Is it okay if we don't pray every night because we can't remember?
Personally, I think that it is fine. I've never really understood the appeal, anyway.
Since all that really seems to matter in the end is where you end up after you die-- because it's not like God is gunna come down off of his cloud and reprimand you for not praying, but it could (hypothetically) affect whether you end up in Heaven or Hell.
Being an Atheist, this is kind of hard to put into perspective, but I'll try.
What I think, is that it doesn't matter what you do (not anything too extreme like murder) but what kind of person you are. Because there is no fxcking way that there is someone in the world who goes exactly by what the Bible says. Because if there was, that person would have no life. At all.
The Bible says that being gay is wrong, and that if you're gay you will end up burning in the eternal flames or what-the-Frank-ever. But I think that if this person was kind hearted and accepted everyone and was just a good person all round, it wouldn't matter what his sexual preferance is. He (or she) would get into Heaven anyway. I think that this would be the same for any one. It doesn't matter of you forget to pray at night, or is you don't pray at all, what will happen is based on who you are as a person not how you live your life.
Thanks for your opinion, but in the Bible it clearly states that people are saved by Jesus. You cannot get to heaven by good works or "Being nice" or even sitting in a pew every sunday. Lots of "good people" are going to hell. I'm sad to say it, but it's true.
Homosexuality is a sin because when God created the world, he made marriage between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN.

Actually, it matters a WHOLE LOT whether or not you pray at all. Tell me... if you wanted to be in a relationship with someone but never talked to them at all about anything or gave them the time of day, how would that relationship work out? It wouldn't. In the same way, if you never talk to God, that relationship is not going to work. And seeing as we were created to have a relationship with God, it's kind of important that we talk to him. In fact, it's pretty crazy that we CAN talk to him. I mean, in the grand scheme of the universe, you and I are just tiny specks... like grains of sand on the ocean. And yet, God knows each and every one of us better than we know ourselves. And he loves us despite that. And he WANTS to have a relationship with us.

I really hope that all made sense, and was sort of helpful/acceptable. It's kind of hard to write about something you don't believe in. Personally, I would rather end up in Hell, it sounds cooler.
<3.
I hope you don't mean that, really. I mean, Hell is eternal death. Everyone pictures it as this place where there's an eternal fire burning and such, but really, I think hell is worse than that. I really really don't want anyone to go to hell. Neither does God. However, even though he loves everyone, he is a just God, and cannot let sin anywhere near him. He even had to turn his back on his own son when Jesus came and took all of our sins upon him, not to give us a free ticket to sin, but to give us a hope of eternal life with him. So God has to send people to hell if they do not acknowledge him.

I hope you come to this realization before it is too late. :)

God bless you!

Well first off what's stupid is to assume that you know something about God just because you think that's what he's like. If you wanna know about a person, you look at what they say. If I wanted to know about Rosa Parks I wouldn't close my eyes and imagine that she probably enjoyed fishing and jazz music. I'd go to her diary and see what she actually said. God's Word says that anyone who falls short of the glory of God, revealed in the character of Christ, deserves death. (which includes every human who's ever lived)

So unless you have any logical or rational reasoning for why cussing is not a sin, or any agreeable definition of 'good' by which you can compare culture we live in now to the culture of thousands of years ago, you don't have much of a strong or solid argument for the permissiveness of cussing.

Is it a sin to cuss: I doubt it. A bad word is just as bad as "Stupid" . Are we not permited to say "stupid" or "dumb" ?

Is it okay to not pray at night because we forget: ... Even I pray everynight...

Do pets go to heaven: Yes.

Actually, I find it bad to call a person stupid. I wouldn't say it's a curse word, but "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" applies here. I would go so far as to say that it's a sin to make others look bad and put other's down by calling them names.
I'm not saying that I never do so, I'm just saying that, yes I think it's a sin.

I never, I repeat, never put words into his mouth. My point by saying "Walking backwards through a door" was just myself giving an irrational example. I'm am well aware that it says nothing like that. My point was that some things that are said in the Bible were classified a sin when they were written 2000 years ago (or...something...) but now, it is almost unbelievable to imagine that anyone could live like that.
Okay, to make my point I have my Bible sitting right next to me:
"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material." Leviticus 19:19.
This, and you are lying (another sin) if you say you don't agree, is completely... irrational. Almost all clothes are woven with two different kinds of material. And I'm pretty sure that I heard once that eating shellfish was a sin, I'm not sure though. But if that's true, that is just as bad.
Leviticus law does not apply to us now because when we accepted Jesus, we were no longer bound to that law. We are now bound to the law of Jesus.

Also, and I'm not trying to offend, the Bible wasn't written by God - so there is no way that we know that this is how He thinks. Maybe he thinks that-- once again, not trying to offend, just an example-- having sex with your daughter-in-law is fine. But we wouldn't know, maybe the Bible is just false rules?
I never said he wrote it. I very specifically said he inspired it. Which means that man wrote it and God basically told him what to write. While this may be difficult for you as a non christian to understand, I believe that God actually communicates with his people. In fact, I've experienced it. (it's not always auditory).

And on Homosexuality: If God created marriage between a man and a woman, and if He thinks that homosexuality is a sin, and if his followers think that God created everything, then why did He create homosexuality in the first place? Was it an accident? He accidently made one man to be sexually attracted to men rather than women?
Myself, I think that it is horrible that same-sex marriage is illegal. They love each other just the same as a hetrosexual couple would.
I have a girlfriend, and I am proud to admit it. I love her- even if I can't bring myself to say it just yet- I really to love her. And who the fxck is God to say that what I feel is wrong?
He didn't create homosexuality. Have you ever heard of Satan? He is everything that God isn't. God initially created the world without sin. Then, Lucifer decided he was equal to or better than God. And then he influenced Eve to sin because he hates humans. He hates us because we are allowed to commune directly with God while he is no longer because of his screw up. Anyway, he is going to put feelings and emotions into our minds that we want to think are perfectly fine, while according to God, they aren't.

And by the way, the only reason I like the idea of Hell better than Heaven is that... I cannot stand perfection. I think that if I ended up in Heaven I would probably choke on the ecstacy. I'm also very masochistic.... so... yeah. From what I've read/heard, it really doesn't sound that bad. The idea of Heaven makes me want to throw up.
The thing is, even if you enjoy pain or something, I am pretty sure Hell is going to be one hundred times worse than whatever you think it is. Hell is eternal suffering and eternal death.

For starters, I don't think that God is like anything since I don't believe in him. But I tried to make him sound like a good guy. But from what I;ve heard, he just sounds like an irrational [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]. You aren't helping your own argument for making him sound the way he does.
I'm sorry if God doesn't meet your expectations. I wasn't aware that we were trying to tailor God to your standards. I'll keep that in mind next time. ;) However, I think that if I created the world and people, I should be allowed to make the rules, no matter how irrational those people might think they sound. Remember that God is outside of time (because he created it), meaning he can see past, present and future. Also, he knows everything we have done, and everything we will do.... I think that's good enough reason for him to make some laws. You see... he knows that we'll screw up so he puts laws into place to help us not to.

And I'm not saying that fxcking cussing is not a sin, I'm just saying that it isn't a reasonable one. I never said that it wasn't a sin. I'm comparing the cultures because it does matter. Lets seperate this from religion and go to the real world for a second. In the real world, things have changed and everyone cusses. Everything is very different to what it was in like back then. We as a race have evolved (there are even these things called computers, I'm using one right now!) It's not rational to live by the rules of some book written back when-the-fxck-ever.
So basically from this bit I'm getting: religion isn't real; everyone cusses; go evolution; throw away old books because there's no way they can apply to us now.
Let me address each of those in turn. First of all, religion is something you believe. Atheism is a religion: it takes a heck of a lot of faith to believe that there is no God when all of the evidence points to a God.
Second, no not everyone cusses. I don't. My parents don't. Plenty of people that I know (teens and adults) do not cuss. I'm not saying we don't slip up some times, I'm saying that we don't integrate curse words into our vocabulary.
Third, we as a people haven't evolved; our technology has evolved, but we are still just as much human as we were six thousand years ago when God made us.
Fourthly, Leviticus was written as a law for the people because they were being stupid and needed some form of guidance. If you think that Leviticus=The Bible, then you're quite mistaken. There are other books. Try reading through Romans or John and tell me what you think. ;) It's not all just rules. It's a love story for God.

There are good messages in the Bible, like how we should respect people and love thy neighbour and stuff like that. Those types of messages are the ones we should be paying attention to, not what we are and aren't allowed to say.
So let's hear only the good things about life and God and love and how everything in the world is happy and cheerful. Yay.
What you're saying is that we should pick and choose what we want to believe from the Bible. ummm... Hello? That's how cults are started. No thanks. Either take the Bible as a whole or don't take it at all.

Anyway, like I said, since you have a Bible next to you (which I commend you for, as even many "Christians" wouldn't be able to find a Bible hidden under all that dust on their dresser) I suggest you read through John or Romans. Or pick a book. If you're going to argue against something, wouldn't you agree that it would be good to know what you're talking about when referring to it? :)
