Before I got saved I just worked, play video games, hung out with friends, and slept. Obviously I can't do that as much anymore, I don't think God wants me to abandon these things but give them less time. So what should I do because I can only read the Bible so much before I get overwhelmed, I could talk to God but the longer I do it the more mental fog I develop (which I why I can't/find it difficult to pray in the morning) and praying for several hours as a new believer seems impossible to me so I have a decent amount of free time so what should I do?

When we get saved, God doesn't expect us to stop everything and pray, read the Bible, go to Church, etc. We continue to live our lives, but God is there with us and guiding us along the way, including when you work, play video games, hang out with friends, and yes, even when you sleep. :)

We are not the ones who know what to do. But God knows all He wants with us. And so, we pray and submit to Him and discover what He does with us. Trust Him - - -

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

And thank Him :)

Do what you want, but in all your ways acknowledge Him. But be open to trying new things. Don’t you want to get in shape or volunteer or get married. Explore your interests, redeem the time, live a productive or profitable life.

What are you expecting to become a super-Christian overnight? You're still just teenager for pete's sake. Take baby steps. Just don't backslide in the process.

Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. - Matthew 6:33-34

Most of us mature spiritually over time. And most of us live ordinary lives. Some join a monastery and devote their lives to prayer and reading scripture. But most Christians go to work, watch TV, play video games, practice their hobby, socialize, eat and sleep.

What you want to strive towards the most regarding your lifestyle is being a man of integrity.

As you continue to pray and just simply talk to God, and read the Bible, and listen to good teachers, God will guide your development. Pace yourself if you start to feel overwhelmed.

Jesus explained that there is the world with all it's evils, and then the true believers. We are still in this world with all it's evil but we should not do evil but strive to do better, it takes time and you must be patient, doing good works around you by helping others will help you progress and you will be closer to GOD this way.

Also, Jesus was teaching about the wide and narrow paths in Matthew 7:13-14
"13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

This verse is all about the choices we make and the direction we choose for our lives.

Think of the wide path as the easy, popular route. It’s like following the crowd, going with what’s trending, or doing what feels good in the moment. This path might look tempting and effortless, but it can lead to negative outcomes if we’re not careful. For example, it might involve chasing after fame, money, or temporary pleasures, even if it means compromising your values or hurting others.

On the flip side, the narrow path is more challenging. It’s about sticking to your values and making choices that might not always be easy or popular. This path requires effort and sometimes sacrifices, but it’s more rewarding in the long run. It could mean being honest even when it’s tough, standing up for what you believe in despite criticism, or prioritizing meaningful relationships over superficial success.

In today’s world, this teaching is a reminder to think deeply about our choices. Instead of just going along with the crowd, it encourages us to stay true to our principles and make decisions that lead to a more genuine and fulfilling life. It’s about finding the strength to take the harder road when it aligns with who you really want to be and what you truly value.

Blessings.

It can be good to listen during prayer, and listen with people.

One important thing is forgiveness. Jesus wants us to forgive, and to have hope for the wrong people we know and hear about.

Thanks, some Christians make it seem like I can't do anything but give to the poor, pray, read the Bible, and go to church
These are things we are to do according to our ability ( which includes our well being). The Lord wants us to be able to enjoy life in moderation also ( as per Psalm 104:14-15 etc. Sometimes we can even fall into sinful pride when doing good works ( Luke 18:9-14, Proverbs 16:18-20).

That's your head that gets overwhelmed by a mental fog. But your heart is starving to feed on God's word. Do your heart a favor and feed that part of you instead of neglecting it.

Feed your heart and you'll become a spiritual Schwartzenagger.

I'd suggest that since you have access to the internet, consider changing your habits by finding some videos of preaching and bible teaching to listen to. You might not fully listen at first but that's okay. It's for your heart to eat and enjoy. Think of some quiet thing to do as the video plays.

It may be that something they say will strike your interest enough that you reach for a paper and pen to write it down to say it over and over the rest of the day.

Most will say that you should read the gospel of John first, but I suggest that you read first from Ephesians or Colossians. Read four verses from each. And one verse from the gospel of John in each reading session. Do that each day at an optimal time, perhaps in the morning and early evening.

Then when your just about to drop your head on your pillow at night, pick out a verse or comment from what you read or heard that day and say it to God as a prayer and thank Him for working in you to desire His word so you can grow into a spiritual strongman.

And, consider getting a bible that is a different version than what you've got. Pick one that's different enough that you'll concentrate on the words because they're unfamiliar to you. Go to an online bible-site where they've got several different versions to read the same verse from each version they've got.

Another thing. Read outloud to yourself. When you do, your ears will pay more attention to the words your looking at.

And get some promise cards. Each box has 20 cards, one verse or promise on each card. Read one card after reading from Ephesians, Colossians and the gospel of John. (when you finish those, then start on others of the new testament).

And, find some videos that provide prayers that someone is praying and listen to them, listen in order to eventually recite them yourself. They've got them for all possible life topics so any of them could cover areas in your life.

People who say that you should use your own words in prayer are putting a direct hindrance to those like you who aren't as good at praying as those people might be and tell others to be. When they tell you to use your own words in prayer, that's like telling a spiritual toddler to drive the family car instead of relying on daddy to drive it. I'm just putting things into perspective here.
Besides I've noticed that a-lot of people ask other people to pray for them so there's not one thing wrong with listening and reciting what others pray. Over time as you get to know how to pray effectively then by all means pray using your own words. But until then pray somebody else's anointed effective prayers over your own life.
