• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Aww, shucks. Thanks, guys!

I was told that since I am aware of what I'm doing, and that I try to rationalize it... it's not really OCD. I do have some of the symptoms or tendencies but not the full-fledged disorder. No worries, though, I still have S.A.D. and I still get depressed sometimes. Good grief... talk about glorying in your infirmities!
^_^

You have all been such good friends and such a blessing, I'm glad to stay around. :p

Hey Yuki...ditto to JayAngel and BeccaLynn! What you've been told sounds a little strange to me...I thought with OCD a lot of people were very aware of what they were doing and that they try to rationalise it...maybe I'm wrong. Be interested to see what others have to say...a second opinion might not be a bad idea. Take care and please do stay around...I for one appreciate your input...hugs, Rachel

Well, first, I think anyone is free to post here if they think they can assist or edify and I think you certainly have.

Secondly, I agree with the others. Even psychiatrists can disagree on what constitutes OCD, particularly when it's the Pure O type (not with physical compulsions attached such as handwashing) Of course, Pure O does kinda have its own compulsions, in a sense. They are just not physical. They are usually ruminating endlessly, seeking reassurance etc.

Have you every read Dr. Phillipson's articles on www.ocdonline.com? Especially the one entitled "Thinking the Unthinkable?" I think that's the one in which he talks a lot about obesessional OCD. Of course, you may actually NOT have OCD. I hope you don't. The psychiatrist I used to see said that in his mind, OCD tends to be a spectrum ranging from very mild to very severe and all everywhere in between.

Thanks everybody for the advice and encouragement and compliments... I'm honored .

I will take into consideration what each of you said, and I will try to find out for sure; a second opinion, etc, and I will read the article you posted, kaykay.
