If you're having a change of heart, and want to come back to God, it is an indication that the Holy Spirit hasn't left you. You are not lost.
Take heart. Be of good cheer.
God isn't done with you.
He wants to save you, and is only looking for you to come back.

Think of the story of the prodigal son. When he decided to return to his father's home, where was the father? The father was waiting, looking, and longing. That's the story of all of us.

Just go back on your knees and pray. Remove the negative thoughts that God deserted you (they're only being planted in your head by the enemy).

Experience the blessing of reuniting with God and basking in His mercy.
Agreed, absolutely 100%.

Aliemikeyj,

I am the epitome of the Prodigal Son. I fell away for almost 30 years, and God drew me back and fully restored me to fellowship with Him.

If you are still in doubt about yourself, I would be happy to arm wrestle with you via pm on who has committed the worst sins, including the unpardonable sin - which in particular I agree with others that you would not be seeking restoration with God if you had committed it.

Take another look at the parable of the Prodigal Son. He was absolutely convinced that he could never return to the Loving Father as his legitimate son. The Father said otherwise.

Question... What if the Prodigal had run into the Older Brother... first?

We all have a daily choice, as believers, to live in tyrrany to the condemning accusations of the older brothers in our heads (planted by you-know-who), or keep our eyes fixed unwaveringly on what the Loving Father says.

Note that I say condemning voice. The difference between it is that it leads you to despair, whereas the conviction of the Holy Spirit leads you to repentance and freedom.

There is a way for you to be absolutely sure. We all can advise you but ultimately none of us can give you full assurance because only God knows your heart. And there's the key. Note what the Apostle Paul said:

1 Corinthians 4:3-4 NIV

"I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me."

You and me, we can gather as much evidence as we can from every conceivable source - Scripture, the opinions of Bible scholars, the Church, ourselves - but it all boils down to this - what does God Almighty say?

My prayer for you is that you follow Him to where He led me - to stand or fall on one verse:

Romans 8:16 NIV

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children."

If you ask Him in faith, I promise you that He will answer. If you are not saved, He will tell you - so that He can save you - not reject you. Unlike the enemy, He doesn't play games.

If you are saved, I believe He will do what He did with me, reveal His presence in you so that you will recognize that it is in fact His Spirit speaking to you (because you'll recognize His voice from when you were initially saved) and since He has your attention, He will make it perfectly clear that you ARE His child and it IS Him speaking.

All of Romans 8 is a good read for recognizing the work of His Spirit.

Expect that He will do it in His time, according to His priorities, in a way that will be unique to you, just to prove that He knows YOU.

You will be delighted that once again, Jesus has kept His word:

Matthew 11:27 NIV

"All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

Just one other thing. After He confirmed me, and I was basking in His compassion, I asked Him why? Why did you choose me when You knew how much I would hurt Your heart, dishonor your Name by compromising my testimony, hurt all the people you gave me to love?

His answer:

Romans 9:14-15 NIV

"For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy."

God says it, I believe it, that settles it. God has the last word, in ALL things.

God bless!
