• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Debbi, I hope and pray as you walk with Jesus, He will help you see what you are doing against God, our body loves sin, we have to fight the urges. We all have to fight temtation and lustful things. He will help us fight temptation as we ask Him and seek to love and honor Him. God can show you if it is sinful if you ask Him in honesty and humbleness.

I am speaking from the experiences I've had with my husband, who cut himself, and from the 4 or 5 others I've known who did that. They were all nonChristians, and people who love their sins and don't know God. As we seek to know God, to love Him, He will prune us and change us to be more like Him. 1 John tells us we must copy Jesus, "whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did" and Jesus was holy and sought God's approval and obeyed even when it meant death in a cruel and shameful way. Being a Christian is not easy, but all things are possible through Christ.

We all have to fight sin in all its forms. God wants us to be pure and holy and examples to others. He can show you sin if you ask Him what He wants to change in you for His glory. He changes me when I confess my sins and ask for His help, I know He can do that if you humble yourself before Him and ask Him and seek God and His ways. The Almighty Creator of all things is holy and wants His children to be holy and pure and righteous also. Nonbelievers and worldly people see people who burn themselves and cut themselves as mentally unstable, that is not a testimony that a Christian should have, that slanders and dishonors God and makes God look terrible in the eyes of others. God is so great, He even gives the power to overcome sin, which is so wonderful. His Holiness is much more honored and revered than His love. The angels around Him cry "Holy Holy Holy" He is holy, His children will be holy too. I hope you seek God, I am praying for you.

Uhg...Over the summer I self-injured quite a bit, but then I stopped for a while and cheered up... Now I'm gettng depressed again, and I keep hurting myself...I have cuts, scatches and puncture markas all over my arms, and if I try to stop cutting myself, then I end up doing other stuff that won't leave such obvious marks....:( I use hot water to burn myself, and a couple of times I even tried outting Vicks VapoRub medicine in my eye. (That stuff hurts, and it is not meant to go in eyes...!) I just can't stop myself! I don't know what to do...:( :sigh:

Well, the first and most important thing is to believe that you CAN stop. Second, you have to want to stop. If those two conditions are fulfilled, draw closer to God even if you don't feel like it. Ask Him to help you to stop. Try to get yourself distracted with other things and stay away from things that will hurt you. For example, if you don't self-injure in public places, try to be in public places as much as possible. I will be praying for you. :prayer:

I have for the most part, Elz...:) I actually made this thread a while ago... and I haven't done anything major to myself in quite a while. I did slip up just a tad bit the other night...but to be honest, that was more because of Maya than anything else... :( It's a long story, but you can PM me if you want to ask... Thank you for being concerned.

A good thing to do is ask God through Jesus Christ to help you stop, and find something good to do to replace the bad.

Here's some really encouraging audio things that may help you find some direction. Especially #4, finding God's will for your life. This is a great lesson that encourages some practical things we can do for Jesus Christ. Get our minds off ourself and sin, and onto the things of God. http://www.wayofthemaster.com/freeaudio_more.shtml
I hope this helps someone. I hope you really get some good help ninetails. Remember, going to church doesn't mean you go to heaven, it's following Jesus Christ from the bible that saves and gives real true life.

Imagine yourself being locked up in a room, what works better? whining about your situation that you are locked up, or a key to get out? Instead of using your energy into cutting/burning yourself, invest this energy into dealing with your problems. You have to change your approuch of dealing with problems. You need to use the right 'Key' to open the door, and leave the problem behind you. This is a much better way of dealing with your problems. I strongly advice you to talk to a counceller, and pray to the lord. And find strong fundaments in your life in order to stand tall against the problems you face. Build your house on rock, not on sand So it may stand against the problems it faces.
