• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi all,

I have had problems in the past of masturbating... I didn't see why it is wrong, and saw other Christians saying that it is fine to touch, so I continued to do it. However, as lots of other people say, I felt so ashamed each time afterwards, and felt bad keeping asking God for forgiveness even, as I knew I would want to do it again.

This was until I asked God to help me, and I truly asked him to shut the door to temptation. He has done, and for the past 3 months, I haven't masturbated or anything, and it has been great, but recently I have been feeling like doing it again.. and it is so hard not to. I have prayed that God will stop me from this like I did before, but right now I am so tempted again.

Is it wrong? Should I not do it? I have asked God to help me to know what the right thing to do it, and I would really appreciate your advice and prayers.

Thanks

Hey Jess, here's my two cents

In and of itself, I tend to believe that masturbation isn't a sin because the bible doesn't say 'masturbation is a sin'. However, what is clearly stated as a sin is lust, which is the driving force of masturbation. I don't know how one could touch without thinking lustful thoughts. So while the act itself might not be, a big part of what drives the act is.
And I say this as a dude who has struggled with masturbation for most of my life.

Hope this is helpful, feel free to pm/private message me. I'll be prayin for ya.

I had the same struggle, battling if I should of shouldn't. Just like you encouraged me, last night I was struggling and I got up and put some worship on and I was really curious on what someone had told me before. Try and find a root of the addiction, everyone has one no matter what you are going through.
Think of this, when you do it you are taking more and more of your innocence away from your future husband and soon enough maybe masturbation will not satisfy you anymore. This verse really helped me get through this too:

"Run from sexual sin!! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was give to you by God? You do NOT belong to yourselves, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Thank you so much both of you, I appreciate it... I have been able to resist recently which has been amazing and I am trying to build up my strength in Christ so that I think of him when I am tempted and so that he can help keep the door to the temptation locked

Thanks

Remember, Jesus loves you. He died on the cross so that your sin would have no power over you. You don't need to give in, though it you do, it doesn't have the power to separate you from his love. He paid the price. Now, knowing that, do you wish to engage in this behavior which has distracted him in the past, or can you use this adversity to practice self-control and to grow closer to him?
