  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am currently struggling with the sin of lust in terms of pornography and masturbation. My sex drive is unusually high and I find the urge too overwhelming. I've been praying to God for help with this but to no avail. I know that this is a sin that will take me to hell but I can't seem to overcome it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason94,

It is normal to have those kind of feelings and the best thing you can do is to pray about it. This is why marriage can be a very vital part of your life. What I did before I got married was to think about the type of person I want to spend the rest of my life with. With urges like this....it usually means you need to start figuring out who that person is through dating. You could also look into what is called conditioning. We have the ability to condition our immune system as well as how our body reacts to various stimuli(various things you come into contact with within your environment). You can associate something negative with masturbating or pornography to cause an undesirable feeling/reaction so it helps you to not continue. Don't worry, you can reverse this as well. Remember that if you want to do this, you need to research the different types of conditioning that there are. Look up Pavlov's experiment and you will understand what I'm talking about.

Hope this helps,

Asking God to help you to do something is good but you have a part to play
in this and it's going to require you to take an active role in getting porn
out of your life and home.

Did you repent of using porn and giving into lust?
If not, please do so.

Do you know what it means to repent? It's more than saying you're sorry--
The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in
a change of action.
It is impossible to truly and fully change your mind without that causing a change in action.
In the Bible, repentance results in a change in behavior.
That is why John the Baptist called people to “produce fruit in keeping with repentance” (Matthew 3:8).

Ask….
Ask God to cleanse, renew, and transform your mind (Romans 12:2).
Ask God to fill your mind with Philippians 4:8. 4

Your part...
Learn to possess your body in holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8).

Spiritual battle...Put on the Armor of God--
Ephesians 6:10-18

What is the Armor of God?

God's armor brings victory because it is far more than a protective covering.
It is the very life of Jesus Christ Himself.

"Put on the armor," wrote Paul in his letter to the Romans, "...clothe yourselves
with the Lord Jesus Christ."
(Romans 13:12-14)

When you do, He becomes your hiding place and your shelter in the storm --
just as He was to David. Hidden in Him, you can count on His victory, for
He not only covers you as a shield, He also fills you with His life.

Are you abiding?
"I am the vine; you are the branches," said Jesus.
"If a man abides in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me
you can do nothing."
(John 15:5)

Since living in the safety of the armor means oneness with Jesus, we can expect
to share His struggles as well as His peace. Remember, God offers us His victory
in the midst of trouble -- not the absence pain.

So "do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though
something strange were happening to you, but rejoice that you participate
in the sufferings of Christ..." (1 Peter 4:12-13)

How do I "put on" God's Armor?
This life in Christ begins with knowing and trusting each part of the armor.
The first part is TRUTH -- God's revelation of all that He is to us, all that He
has done for us, and all that He promises to do for us in the days ahead.
This wonderful, everlasting TRUTH is written in the Bible, revealed by the
Holy Spirit, and realized through Jesus Christ.

It cuts through all the world's distortions, deceptions, and compromises.
When you study, memorize, live, and follow TRUTH, He enables you to see the
world from God's high vantage point.

For He is the Truth! Putting on the first piece of the armor means feeding on truth through daily Bible reading and making it part of yourself.

Belt of TRUTH
God: the Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) Deut. 4:39; Psalm 23:1;18:1-3

Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS
The holy and perfect righteousness of Jesus in those who are "born again" and filled with His Spirit
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."
(Matt. 5:6) Psalm 100:3; Rom. 3:23-24, 6:23

Sandals of PEACE
Inner peace and readiness
"For He Himself is our peace..." (Ephesians 2:14-15)
Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:14; John 14:27, 16:33, 20:21.

Shield of FAITH
Living by faith
"I am crucified with Christ:...and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God...." (Gal. 2:20) Romans 4:18-21

Helmet of SALVATION
Salvation through Christ
"Nor is there salvation in any other..."(Acts 4:12)

The victorious Sword of the spirit: GOD'S WORD
God's Word countering spiritual deception and accusations
"...the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory...."
(John 1:14)

Regaining control

Proverbs 4:23 states,
"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
The “heart” includes the mind/ thoughts. More info about this here:

1 Try to channel that energy into something else--a project, athletics, any wholesome godly activities. Take heart that your drive will lesson to a more manageable level as you age. If overwhelmed it may be wise to chose a mate for an early marriage.

2 Although it's been debated ad nauseum at CF I 100% believe that masturbation is NOT a sin. You may be dumping pseudo-guilt on your head over this one AND it is an excellent sexual stress reliever.

Ellan2 you're religion icon indicates that you are not Christian and therefore ought not to be posting advice in this forum.

Porn will only serve to exaggerate your sex drive - and poison your mind to healthy, God-honoring sexuality.

Are you a born-again follower of Christ? If not, then praying to God for help is not going to be of much use. God's help is contingent upon you being one of His children.

If you are a genuinely born-again person, then you already have all that you need to be free of the power of sin. This is your birthright as a child of God. All you need to do is to begin to reckon it so.

Selah.

Hi
Here's the good news the Lord has not left you powerless. Your Jesus defeated sin at the cross. What will help you in this battle, and its a battle is Romans chapters 5-8. Ask the Spirit for insight on these chapters. He will aid you, and strengthen you. Temptation is common for folks, but he will be faithful in giving you a way of escape.

Someone posted there are things you need to do. Paul stated in the area having to do with sexual temptations, for us to FLEE. Get rid of the porn NOW. You're going to still be tempted, but that's where Romans 5-8 come in. If you stumble don't quit, repent(change your mind) let the Spirit aid you. The Spirit will not shame you, he's there to help you. Remember there's " no condemnation in Christ Jesus".

Grace to you.

The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

Romans 7:14-17

You are under the law instead of free from it.
Produces all kinds of desires within your carnal mind (sin nature).
Making you a slave to it all.

When we get MORE of GOD (which you already have, just more of HIM in your thinking), HE (GOD) replaces those desires with higher ones, lust for loves, you basically become addicted to something higher- more worthy!

You are not in some foreign place - but are in the same place every person is at time to time, including Paul himself!

And with revelation of dying to it all and being an overcomer, it will pass - Praise the LORD.

the ONLY sin that will take you to hell is not believing that all your 'sins' have been paid for - it is the sin of unbelief that has not been paid for. as long as you believe that you can out-sin God's forgiveness through Jesus' sacrifice, you'll be a slave to sins.

rather than try to turn away from sin, seek instead to turn toward God - this automatically turns you from sin. when those feeling begin to overwhelm you, read your Bible instead or listen to some good faith teachings. this should help:

The only way to remove that addiction is to pray to GOD in the name of his son JESUS for discernment and the strength to resist temptation. Also seek out deliverance from the enemy and to recognize the activities of such.

I highly recommend removing any "triggers" that ignite these fires. These triggers ARE anything to do with the senses that activate the issue. Be it pics on the web(uncheck the show pictures box in IE), be it vocals and even smells that might trigger your appetite. Anything that ignites even the thought can be detrimental...after a short time you will soon become resistant(resist the devil and he will flee from you)and your mindset will take on a different view of the scenario. As a believer and follower your mindset will become more resolved and resistant.

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
