  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

And joined a Christian dating website. I only joined for 1 month but I am interested in seeing if I meet anyone on there. It's been over 3 years since I've been on a date with a Christian so I figured I don't have much to lose.

Anyone had success online?

Nope. I must belong to a million dating sites, and nothing.

I've met plenty of decent women online, but I recommend strongly against pay sites because the selection is going to be limited to, well, people willing to pay for such things. OKCupid and ChristianDatingForFree.com are my recommendations. Both are 100% free and have pretty high membership numbers.

There are a few keys to having any kind of success online:

1. Don't waste time. If someone meets your most fundamental criteria (i.e., male, Christian, not a criminal), be open to meeting sooner than later. The sooner you move things to real life, the better. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that "spending more time getting to know each other online" is a good idea. It's not.

2. Limit your geographic area to two hours' driving distance at most. You don't need to waste your time or anyone else's chatting up someone if every visit is going to require a "big trip."

3. First three dates in public places, always. First off, it's a safety thing. Second, it gives you time to really evaluate someone before you start spending alone time together, just like group time would.

4. Always search for people with pictures only. Anyone who hasn't posted one isn't serious enough about meeting someone to be worth your time.

Good luck! :)

I think all those "success stories" from dating sites must be one, big, hairy lie. Like the other posters above, I've been on various sites over the years and obviously I'm still single, so...

...they don't work, IMO. Yet I continue to be active on them. Hopeful idiot, I guess.

Yea, I'm on Christiandatingforfree.com as well. It's free, and you can message people on there and stuff. But I've been on there for years, and really not that many people are even close to being potentials. I've pretty much entirely stopped looking for the moment, because for the next couple years, I have goals that probably will exclude giving me a chance to meet "the one."

But honestly, a dating site is only as valuable as the people who use it. If everyone sees that the sites are kinda "meh" now, then the sites will only get smaller and worse. But if more people join them, especially the free ones, the worst that happens is that the place becomes more popular and more people start to join. In the best case, you do find the person of your dreams. Of course, just having the person get on there doesn't mean God will allow you to meet right away. God may put couples off from bumping into each other until the right time. Better to have to wait a little longer than to meet early and face a lot of extra hardships that you have to get out of before even getting to where God's starting place would have been originally.

I have an account on christiandatingforfree. I'm not trying too seriously to find someone right now for a number of reasons, mostly because I'm going to be moving within 2 years, probably halfway across the country. I have gone on a date with someone from there, it didn't go anywhere, but it was an opportunity with someone who I would never have met otherwise.

There's really no reason not to try online dating. To many people, including myself, the first thought about it is that it is for desperate people etc... but in reality it's just a way to expand your search and make yourself available to people that you wouldn't have a chance to meet otherwise. In my opinion online dating will become a very normal thing in the future.

I do believe that the relationship should be taken from online to real life quickly, and long distance relationships should still be avoided.

I think you have to have a certain personality to be on a dating site of any sort. If you're a person who's still into playing the non-technological field or just interested in finding someone for a night, it'll be boring or not up to snuff. I've never joined a dating site, but from what I can see, it seems to be more people who are looking for a life partner or spouse, rather than a bunch of people to go to parties with. Which is fine and dandy; just I personally am not at the 'settling down' stage.

Again, I've never used a dating site of any sort.

I have had no luck with dating sites (I don't count CF Singles forum), although the only one I really used was christiandatingforfree.com. I just don't have the money for eharmony, although I have an inactive account with them.

My former supervisor met her husband through a yahoo dating site, though. And at my former church, the pastor's son met his wife through christiancafe.com.

I always figured I am still too young to try something like that, as if it were a "last resort". Guess I was wrong.
Yeah, but you're not looking for a relationship.

I meant it in the context that I were. I figure if you're still in college you can look around there..

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! deep breath HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Right...sure...in my school of about...8,000 students, one of them has to be the one, right?

I had to join a dating site. I got tired of hitting on all the married girls.

Precisely. :)

Agreed. Honestly, I didn't know there were this many under-30s in the States and Canada that were really looking to get married anytime soon before I got to this website.

I don't want to bash those or suggest that internet dating is a last resort; I just don't quite understand the rat race to get married by 25 that seems prevalent on this site, in particular.

Then again, I'd be quite okay ending up like George Clooney. Maybe the posters on here think he (or my attitude) is really sad and pathetic, I don't know.
