  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I apologize

Their actual ideas and basic beliefs stand on a hyperliteral interpretation of the Bible, and not much else. That's what Dayton illustrated... beautifully, I might add.

Ignoring the gratuitous comparison to the KKK.... huh?

It was a joke. A joke with a purpose, which Dayton accomplished.

Stick around, T.R.D. :)

A wrong cannot be a right. Do matter how it is disguised.

Tell that to God. Thomas Aquinas believed that the reason God allows evil to happen is because He can see to it that good eventually comes from it.

Dayton misrepresented himself, yes, but he did it in an attempt to educate us, YEC and evolutionists alike.

The fact that he's been raked over the coals for it shows that the education didn't take. :p

I am dayton. I know I have been banned and will be banned for this, but I want to apologize for trolling this board, lying and misrepresenting myself. What I did was stupid, immature, and disrespectful and you made the right decision by banning me. I won't post here anymore, all I ask is that you find it in your heart to forgive me.

Respectfully yours,

And the YEC position is?

We believe that God created the earth in 6 literal days and that the earth is give or take less than 12,000 years old. Although I'm not sure about certain things like the earth being formless and void yet God hovering above the waters, but thats another subject and a possibilty for an older earth.

But basically a YEC is someone who believes that the earth is young and believes Genesis literally.

And I am sick and tired of wblastyns flaming immature remarks, he makes the atheists look good, what a poor witness.

In fact I am so sick of wblastyns attacks that if I wasn't a Christian I would cuss him out royally and tell him where to stick it. :)

He has nothing to offer but ridiculous uninformed attacks against the Creationist position, that I try to overlook him and deal with the people that really know something about the THEORY of evolution.

I would fellowship with atheists before fellowshipping with this guy, unless he stops his BS and respects people, hes a poor example of a Christian IMO.

Nobody knows the age of earth, CreationISM and evolution have 2 diametric ideas, the creationISTs think its young and God created it as described in Genesis and the evolutionists don't really know, but are happy to believe that we just appeared and evolved from one-celled organisms.

EDITED TO ADD: And then there the theistic evolutionists that believe God created, but used evolution to finally bring man into existence, despite the millions of unique species and Genesis' account of being created after our own kind.

Evolutionists have an adavantage because science, or more precisely, science pursues that theory more than creation science, and thats because other than the bible the creationists really don't have much to back up their beliefs. There is some but not much.

On the other hand creationists believe and see the evidence that evolutionary theories are incomplete.

I suppose you would have to read the bible and spend lots of time studying evolution to make an educated decision in which avenue to pursue, if any.

Like anyone is going to unlock the mystery of Gods method of creation and any of his secrets.

;)

Personally I don't care as long as God created it, yes I believe that God created like he says, but I don't really think its worth debating over. I used to but not anymore, I have bigger fish to fry.

ROFL, this is hilarious! What sorts of of things did Dayton say that the YEC believed?

Nothing that I know of.

And, please stay Dayton, you're a funny, funny guy :D

Yeah I guess every position could use some comedy relief, since it seems that is what he is good at.

Gap people believe in the literal events of Genesis chapter one also. They believe a day is 1000 years and all the events happened in the last 14,000 years. It is just they believe in a old earth also, but God destroyed most of the life on the earth and began all over again.

If you look at this earth 14,000 years ago, it was just as the Bible says it was: "without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep". If you study the ice samples you will see that the earth's atmosphere was filled with dust at that time. Then when the dust settled the light came though. The first two days had to do with the atmosphere.

Also, the earth was covered with water 12,000 years ago. The next two days had to do with the seperation of the land from the water. Then the seasons were established as we know them today. Before this, the world was in a ice age and the climate and seasons were very different.

Then 10,000 years ago, on the fifth and the sixth day life on the earth began to form.

Then 8,000 years ago, God rested for 1000 years.

Six thousand years ago. God formed Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.

I think I see. You subscribe to "The Gap Theory", as opposed to the one put forward by the naturalist, Philip Henry Gosse, in Omphalos (1857)?

It's very kind of you to explain, by the way...

Do you believe that John? I could probably buy that. Thats why I said 12,000 years because of the gap theory, even if a day is like 1000 years then YEC still could be conceivable with a literal Genesis.

I don't believe in YEC either but I myself wouldn't mock a Christian faith even if I don't share their views.

YEC is a Christian faith? I thought they were trying to pass it off as a scientific theory.

So which is it?

Well considering there really isn't any good scientific evidence that the earth is young I would say it is more faith based.

If there was scientific evidence that non evolution creation was a possibility would you study it?

Yes, I believe it, because it is consistant with the way we understand our Bible. When Jesus returns for His church at the end of this age, I believe we will all be of one mind and one accord. The YEC will still be YEC because they will realize they are looking at a young world. The OEC will still be OEC because they will realize they are looking at the old world. But we will still all have the mind of Christ and we will still all be in agreement.

Eccles. 2:26
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

I believe that God is using the sinner to do the work to gather in all the evidence. But I do not leave it to the sinner to explain to us what they have found in the way of a natural record. It is up to God to explain to us the meaning of things and His purpose in it all.

Even as it is, they say they have only found about 10% of what is in the ground to find. Perhaps during the 1000 year reign of Christ, is when they will find a lot more then what they are finding now.

Great then. You want to consider it part of the Christian faith, fine by me. So what's all the hubbub about teaching it in schools?

If there was scientific evidence that non evolution creation was a possibility would you study it?

Of course. I'm willing to study any possibility that fits the facts we have so far.
Bear in mind, though, that studying a possibility and believing it are two different things.

Well it's true that lying was wrong, but he did show YEC for what it really is.
