• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have been suffering from a lot of stress lately, a lack of faith, and some anxiety, and then I looked at something on the internet and thought maybe I had OCD. I really can't tell though. This obsession all took its beginnings when I was in church school in 8th grade about 2 years ago when the pastor spoke of an unforgivable sin. Since that day I worried and fretted that I might commit the sin even though I didn't know what it was. So then after awhile this habit of repeating phrases like "Thank God" or "I love God" or several other repeated phrases came into my head. The only thing is, it wasnt constant, and it did not blaspheme the Holy Spirit or any other part of the Godhead, it only praised God, and it wasn't really an obsession either. It only became an obsession just recently when I tried to stop and then those thoughts became uncontrollable and I fretted and worried that I commited the sin, then I got really stressed out about it, and right now as I write this I am still under tons of stress. The only thing is, I seem to have the ability to control these thoughts. So I'm confused as to whether I have OCD, or whether I am just stressed to a point where the stressor is an obsession or what? If I have forgotten anything I'll add it later because like I said, I'm under a lot of stress and my memory isn't quite that good...

Hi, I'm not sure what your question is? Only a doctor can diagnose you to see if you have OCD.

Please don't worry about blaspheming the Holy Spirit. There is only one unforgivable sin, and it is never believing..at the end of one's life.

I hope you are doing okay, and hope you write back soon. Take care, tapero

I've been overly paranoid about sinning too, so much that I've hardly even been living my life like I should. My mind is so stressed out I can't think or remember things like I was once able to. Can you please help me?

Hi Hawkeye, I like your name. Stress does cause memory problems so that is understandable. We all sin and God has forgiven us already. There's nothing to get paranoid about. God is so good to us and loves you very much. Please pm me if I can help you more also.

Hawkeye, it sounds like you need to get to a doctor. Are you able to do that?

God bless you, Tapero

Believe it or not, one cannot sin too much. Jesus' blood covered all of our sins. If you are a believer and sin too much, God will deliver you a "spanking", but He still loves you and only wants you to turn back to Him.

Jesus' guidance was that if somebody sinned against you and said that they were sorry that you should forgive them every time. If He expects that of us, then how much more will He do for you?

Just keep asking for His help and forgiveness. He will be there for you.

No, I am not certain if I'm able to reach a docter around where I live, but I can tell you this... The more I learn about sin and the unpardonable sin, the more my fear gets uprooted. The more this fear gets uprooted the less I obsess about Jesus, and the less these thoughts enter my head, and actually I have more control over them than what most of the people in here say they do. thats why im confused, and not to go into my life story again, but when this all started i was afraid of loseing God because i didnt understand the unforgivable sin that well, so then i repeated over and over again that believe to convince myself, then this turned into a habit... or did it turn into OCD? What do you think? but i never had any bad thoughts until i tried to put an end to the habit.

Usually, when you are trying to replace a habit, you must substitute something else. Otherwise, you will tend to go back into the old habit.

Perhaps you can find a line of praise that you can substitute. I'm rather fond of the first and second verses of Amazing Grace.

Amazing Grace, how sweet that sound
that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
and grace my fears relieved.
How wondrous did that grace appear
the hour I first believed.

If it has gotten to the point that it interferes with your life, you will probably need to seek help. It sounds like you may have developed OCD with stress as the trigger. Fortunately, there are a lot of good treatments that work relatively quickly. If you school provides counseling, that would be a good place to go, as it is generally free or very low cost.

It is best to nip this in the bud before it propagates. Good luck and God bless!

Ok, but I read somewhere once that enough stress can make you obsess over a certain thing until its resolved, and when I feel like my faith is getting built up and I'm finnaly not haveing those thoughts I feel like a ton of pressure is being removed off my my head. But when I feel like things arent getting better I get stressed out again. Also, i was fearing these thoughts returning too, so that also hurt me as well... but like i said, the more i uproot this fear the less obsessive i am about it.

Yes, you probably have ocd, you are worried(obsession) and you repeat(compulsion) I know a lot about ocd and I know the symptoms. They have been with me since I was very young!!! I also have a thread about ocd/blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and their are many responses. Just look it up under ocd/blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

I am scared to death over this sin because of something I said in my mind when I was mad. Ironically I had been angry because I was having obsessions about the unpardonable sin and I got so mad that I actually "said" somthing in my mind.

This is a very deep rooted sin, and doesn't come from merely the lips, but deep within the heart of a man, and a heart that loves the Lord is incapable of truly committing such a sin. Right after speaking about the unpardonable sin, Jesus said in Matthew 12 that it is out of abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. If you look up the word abundance in this verse in the NT Greek, it gives you the Greek word perisseuma, which means a surplus or overflowing. Jesus was making it clear that a person's whole heart would have to be evil before they are capable of committing the unpardonable sin:
Matthew 12:34, "O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (This is found in the context where Jesus was speaking of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit)
When a person's heart is in a condition capable of committing such a sin, it is as hard as stone and overflowing with evil. There is no concern about what they are doing. Once they cross the line, they have separated themselves from the very God that wants to lead them to repentance. They become unable to repent or desire to be reconciled with Jesus. The ability to repent and turn to Jesus is a gift from God, and without God's hand in a person's life, they are unable to even repent and turn to Jesus:
John 6:44, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."
Why isn't a person able to come to Jesus? They are spiritually blind. They are unable to understand the need for Jesus in their lives:
2 Corinthians 4:4, "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
Luke 8:12, "Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved."
As we can see, it is only by seeing the truth in Jesus that a person can be saved, and not everybody can see this truth:
Matthew 13:15-16, "For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear."
Therefore, if a person is beyond hope, they would be unable to see the need to repent of their sins and turn to Jesus. This is why the Bible confidently tells us that any sin we can repent of, we can be forgiven of:
1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
A person who is guilty of the unpardonable would show no signs of repentance or remorse for their wrong. A person who is beyond hope would be unable to come to Jesus, because we are promised that if we come to Jesus, we will not be cast out.
John 6:37, "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."
In a nutshell, the unpardonable sin is a deep rooted sin that comes from deep within a person, and completely cuts them off from God. When a person is in that position, they are unable to even recognize the need to repent or turn to Jesus. In other words, a person's concern over the unpardonable sin is genuine proof that they have not gone beyond hope.

another site says this

In Matthew 12:31, the Pharisees are faced with positive proof that Jesus is who he says he is. They know that what Jesus is doing is of the Spirit of God. But rather than believe, they ascribe the work of the Spirit to the devil. Jesus comments on this, "Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." Is Jesus' point simply that this is a special sin for which there is no forgiveness? The answer is No. There is no sin so great that the precious blood of the Son of God -- of infinite value before God -- is not sufficient to pay for it. The issue is that forgiveness comes only to those who believe on the Lord Jesus. And someone who knows who Jesus is -- who realizes that his work is by the Holy Spirit -- and yet so refuses to believe that he actually ascribes the Spirit's work to the devil, cannot possibly be saved. Why? Because that person is not just ignorant, but they willfully, knowingly, reject Jesus as Messiah, as proved by the Holy Spirit. So this passage describes not someone who in a fit of anger or temptation commits blasphemy, but someone who refuses to believe on Jesus as the Messiah, even when he recognizes the Holy Spirit at work.

If you need more sites...I have them all in my favorites. I have gone over them...I look at them when I need reassurance.
Great work, and well written! Thank you for this reassurance and with great timing. I can see you have really grown in the truth of God's mercy. Keep up the good work. It seems that we all support eachother well on this site. When somebody is down, there seems to be somebody else who can "pick them up." Something from 2nd Corinthians (?) about bearing one another's burdens from comes to mind....

You are not saved or accepted by your lack of sin... you are saved and accepted only by His love and grace towards you and by your belief in Him... which you have... nothing will change how much He loves you... nothing...

If you commited the unpardenable sin you wouldnt even care becuase your spirit would not be alive in Him... dont let the enemy (or your mind) make you think that you have commited it because its just lies.

Yes, you are right, we all pick eachother up, perhaps all the hours that I spent looking for decent writings on the unpardonable sin were all for a good reason...to help others, not just myself.

Hawkeye777 I hope you are alright. Please check out some of the other unpardonable/ocd/blasphemy boards on Christian forums. There are a few of them.
