I am having major problems..please help me

I was brought up as a Christian...never really questioned it, just accepted it.

But then I thought, how come every race in the whole world no matter how separated, no matter what era, has a "god" figure(s).

It seems like our minds cannot accept dying out forever, that is too scary so we create an afterlife. As well as this our minds draw a line between moral and immoral but sometimes our bodies cannot hold this line and we need the fear of God to keep us on the straight and narrow.

We are being ruled by fear, punished by death. This sounds more like Saddam Hussein than an all-loving being.

If God exists - and i highly doubt that he does - then I dont even WANT to worship him.

It seems like you have had an image of God given to you by heritage. Somebody told you: This is God and He loves you. You keep walking just taking that. Somebody told me...and it´s ok, I take it.
But...have you ever FEEL the love God has for you? NOT TAKING IT, BUT FEELING IT?
Do you think God is responsible for every single problem you have? Then rest in peace and let Him to take control on those problems.
If you think half of the problems were caused by your bad decisions and half were coming from God...you have three choices: Fix them by yourself and say goodbye God... fix your own problems and let God fix His Own in your life...and the third one...say well God thank you and I give this little package for you to solve. Do you want to try?

Maybe you can look at it as thus -- everyone does have god figures, but they are merely manifestations of the same deity that universally rules, it's just that each culture has different interpretations of the deity's doctrines and beliefs. "Allah" is merely the Islamic word for God. Jews and Christians worship the same God. It's just that each culture has different interpretations of what "God" really is.

Of course, it could also all stem from the human need to belong to, quite simply, belong to something much larger than oneself and that God doesn't really exist. But I'm not going to get into all that, as I'm rather tired.

Congratulations! You have taken a big step towards a more rational view of the world. My journey towards non-belief started with a similar line of thinking, except I was not strictly speaking brought up Christian.

I can simpathize with your feelings. You're walking a path that most have had to walk on their journey. The path is well worn and is long with pitfalls, forks in the road and a occasional rest stop every now and then. But at the end, when you reach the summit, you look back upon your journey and you can't believe how much ground you have covered. And yes it's all been worth it.

All that is to say...keep asking questions, keep seeking and never stop learning.

Yes they all do. Perhaps it's as Romans 1 talks about. That we see the creation around us and we desire to relate to that which created it. Perhaps it's that "pulling" deep down inside of us as though something is drawing us in and beckoning us to seek it out.

I think many have determined, for themselves, that there isn't a afterlife. I don't think morality is drawn by that conclusion. Morality is determined by other things..Biblically, what is immoral is that which dishonors God or hurts other people. So to live a moral life, is to live a life that honors God and promotes love and kindness towards others.

Perhaps you should take a closer look. What you see from a distance that appears blurred will become much clearer the closer you get.

Perhaps what you needed was a "religious awakening". Rather than choosing to disconnect yourself from God I encourage you to seek Him in a different way. Many have a theoretical knowledge of religious truth but have never experieced the renewing power of devine grace upon their own heart.

Experience is knowledge based on experiment and what you need now is experimental religion. The psalmist said "taste and see that the Lord is good" but instead of relying on the word of another you need to taste it for yourself.

Religious experience strengthens as it is brought into daily life. Entreat the Lord to show you how to do this.

Know also that the Christain life is a warfare. The apostle Paul speaks of wrestling against principalities and powers as he fought the good fight of faith. Religious experience is gained through conflict and disappointment but there is victory for those who fight like men.

It is very apparent from their postings to you that they care. Maybe I shouldn't but would you mind if I share a few things with you?? Now you take the Apostle Paul as an example; do you know what he was doing when he was converted?? He was on his way to Damascus to arrest some Christians. Not only was he turned around, but he became the most prolific apostle proclaiming the risen Christ. God perfects his strength in weakness. He sent Moses to deliver Egypt...did you know that Moses had a speech impediment?? That's why God put Mose's brother Aaron with him, because Moses was so anxious about his speech problem....it appears that Aaron was about the only one who could understand him. Moses was able to do what he did because God was with him. God is with you too or you wouldn't be perceiving that you are in need of guidance, you didn't select Him, He chose you and He knows just how weak we folks are, that's because His son came here and lived among us and was one of us. Jesus established His church with the Apostle Peter, do you know what Peter did? He denied Christ three times prior to the crucifixion. I'll bet you never did anything that bad. My suggestion to you is this. Listen to what your friends on this site are saying and stay in touch using this forum, we are all pulling for you. The reason that humanity needs God is because we are hard-wired for it, it's not that God doesn't exist, it's that He does exist and He created us with a desire to seek Him out. Go to the Psalms, especially Psalms 91 and study. Put on the whole armor of God, there is not much more of the race to run before it is complete....T.O.I.

Despite being Christian, your words ring true with me. This idea or theory is probably a problem for a great many who want or lose faith. I think the saying which haunts me the most, which I heard in a movie, is that "we idolize our fear, and call it God."

You should definitely consider the questions and doubts you've raised. But make sure you're truly examining these issues, and not bailing on faith or the possibility of Divine Creation in some knee-jerk fashion, as if the questions you pose are revelations unto themselves.

One of the things that "keeps me in there" is that I find my faith is not governed by or a result of fear; counter to this, I find when I am least fearful, when I let go of fear, I am most aware of God and our connection to Him.

It is not a question of having a belief in God- end of story. The central issue is
Why do I beleive in God?

My faith is based on a reasonable examination of the evidence to accept what Jesus said about himself, and our relationship with him. That it is credible to accept that we have a reliable record of his life and teaching and his resurrection is what my faith is based on. From there I can construct a belief system that gives me the most consistent and reasonable worldview that I have discovered.
