How can we discover that we are wrong without actualy discussing things with fellow believers.

Erm, prayer and reflection come to mind.

Far more likely to convince the heart than any amount of opposition. In case you hadn't noticed, opposition only strengthens and entrenches positions, it does not break them down.

Breaking down defences needs something much stronger; love.

Other Christian have acused me of promonting the ocult because of the Music I listen to, having goths freinds(who are Christian to) and for my art and Writing. They said I could not listent to Rock and Metal (just like every one to know I will NOT listien to any Santanic bands,The ones I like are not envoled with the ocult and some are even Christian them selves) They said my freinds were unhealthy and involed with the ocult eather though they never met them, they just thought that because I told them they were goths. Then acussed me of getting envoled with the ocult because I read and write Fantasy/Sci-Fi and I make Gothic art (both my writing and my art are not Anti-Christian, My wirting was actully promting it) and My art gets me in trobal with some Christians, my drawling have bin conpaired to Tim Burtin and I do not make things that that are anti Christian. Today I reach a Boiling point when I was on onther Christian web site that tared me up for likeing fantasy and having goth freinds.


How should I deal with other Christians who keep saying I am not a real Christian over things like this?

I would just look at the people who call themselves christians and attack your music, and tell myself they are lost, they dont know the King dude!! Not like you know 'im!!!

I also want to remind you that another person cannot tell you what God's will is for your life. I wish to remind you that pleasing God should be your foremost thought, not what other people think. The question is not whether your interest are right or wrong but how can your interest glorify God? Are you more concerned about what you want to do or what God wants you to do? Your consideration should not be that this isn't bad but is God working through this in the lives of others?

This is a different case. This is a brother, who is innocent, assailed by a series of well meaning but mistaken people, who feel called to put him right, in what can only be called a presumptuous and arrogant manner.

In such a case, there is every point in nodding your head and ignoring them. It is the Christ-like thing to do. The non Christ-like thing to do, would be use a vulgarity to encourage them to go forth and multiply.

Reflection only works if you reflect on all issues. The best way to do this is to discuss those issues with other peopls, especialy people who hold different views.

This is only the case when people are not willing to actualy listen. I often find the oposite to be true and have found it to be very effective.

But this is quite irrelevent. Jesus does not say to go an speak to them 'as long as they are willing to listen'. He just says to go to them and talk about it. To say otherwise would be adding to scripture

I completely agree, but love is much more then just a feeling, it is action. Often the action of love is the aplication of reason and logic to contested issues. I would never get into such a a discussion for any reason other then love (at least I hope I wouldn't, I'm not perfect after all).

You know what? I don't know if I'm in the position to give u any good advice as sometimes i find myself struggling as a Christian too but I'll try to help.

It is so difficult sometimes when you have to match up to people's expectations as to what makes you a good Christian. But u just have to tell yourself, you only need to be a good Christian in God's eyes. It doesn't really matter what people expect of you as a Christian or what people want you to be. Be the Christian that God wants you to be. Pray friend. Read the word of God. Allow him to guide you in your endeavours, troubles, confusions, fear and all else. God will light your path and guide you through life's many obstacles.

Of course, I'm not saying you're right or wrong. There is a thin line between black and white, right and wrong, evil and good. You need to know where you stand. Do you agree with me? But allow God to tell you what is right or wrong, friend. Pray and leave your troubles to God.

I am a cristian goth too, I don't think God minds that I wear black and spiked collars, I think hed mind if i poked people with them though! The fact is that Demon hunter is a cristian band that plays metal. Metal is a genre. There are a few people that have messed it up for the rest (Marlyn mason and some others) rap is a genre and some of their songs have cussing and sexual references but, if you go to your local cristian shop you can find rap that is cristian. A genre cannot be evil. It is the person or people performing the music that are bad.

Whatever you do let it be of God and through God. In my mind the way you dress and portray yourself on the outside should prepresent your heart. As a Christian, God is in your heart. If you feel that God is being shown through not only what you wear but also through your actions and your demeanor, than great! But if you find yourself questioning your authenticity, if you realize that you're becoming a distraction to those around you in a negative and unGodly way, than maybe you should rethink some of these things. I'm not saying who you are is wrong. I'm not even saying you need to change. I'm just saying, if God is telling you something, even if it's through the "Christian" bigots around you, than listen.

Tell them that they're judging you which the bible says not to do. If they don't listen, shake the dust off your feet, walk away and ignore them.

I did not say that love is just a feeling. I personally believe that the feeling bit is the least of love, for the simple reason that feelings can be very deceptive. It is those for whom we feel nothing, but demonstrate love towards, where our love is most genuine.

As to the second part of the above comment, I fail to see anywhere the application of reason and logic in Christ's demonstration of love when on earth. He certainly contained both of those, as I would hope we do too, but in terms of what his love comprised, I think reason and logic are perhaps between 1 and 5%, with the vast majority of his love comprising mercy and compassion. Difficult to make a breakdown, of course, but if you focus on reason and logic, imo you end up with a very distorted 'love', if it can be called love at all. Rather closer to pride than anything else.

There are many postings on this thread, and I've brought your posting forward into the lime light again, so other can read it again.

When it all comes down to the nitty-gritty, the question we can ask is, "Who is right and who is wrong?"

Now, when anyone speaks out on anything that appears to be not right, then those people who receive these warnings from other people, should at least consider the warning with some commonsense.

Now there is a multitude of postings on other people's ideas on whether you are getting a hard time, or whether you are rebelling.

Now our Lord Jesus Christ is the judge, whether you are doing the right thing or the wrong thing.

Now if you believe you are right in the eyes of our Almighty God, then why are asking these questions.

Now, if you believe that you are wrong in the eyes of our Almight God, then why are you asking these questions.

Yes, people do judge other people by their appearances. But, these days, what people consider "good appearances" to "bad appearances" should be at least considered with some commonsense.

Commonsense is the question here. What is commonsense?

The commonsense of being a Christian, that is, a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now mate, do you consider what you are doing, is glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ?

Is your actions, CHrist-LIKE?

Now, I know nothing about Gothic art, but I would consider with a bit of commonsense, that if my art is offending other brothers and sisters in CHrist, then I would take my art to my pastor and ask him to explain.

As the old saying goes, you can't drag a horse to water and make it drink, if it doesn't want to drink.

So, what can you ask yourself? Do you want to obey our Lord Jesus Christ or do you want to disobey?

In James it says:

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith prodcues patience....if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God...but let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind....he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways"

A "double-minded man" has two souls, one part on our Almighty God, and the other part on the world.

I am sorry to say Loner, but you are caught up between God and the world, and you are uncertain on what you want to be.

Go and speak to your pastor, then it will come from the "horse's mouth" as we may say!
