i have been watching the debates and the precedence on education, and yet my brother has a degree in chemical engineering and cant find a job...this makes no sense.

Depends where your brother is looking... im sure there are some mission agencies that would be able to place chemical engineers.

You are right that it makes no sense. I know so many people in big cities, little towns with college degrees that can't find any jobs. The problem isn't education. There are plenty of people with education or getting their education. It is that there are just no jobs.

Not only do you have to compete with your own countrymen for a job, you have to compete with EDUCATED DEGREED people in East Asia that will accept 1/3 of what they would have to pay you for a job. It is really a horrible job market right now.

I think it's a horrible job market because some people in the computer field have, or did have, unrealistic expectations in salary due to the internet boom. People were making millions, and during the height of it, just about anyone with any reasonable amount of experience could walk in and name their price. I also think that is true in other industries.

I live in a particular area of the country that hosts both the major software company and the major aerospace company (gee, that's tough to figure out!). I know people who work for one or the other, or have worked for both at some point. These people know they are very fortunate and that their wages/benefits are artificially high.
