I’m a new Christian and I’m wondering.

If you pray for someone and they have demons in their life etc, does that open a doorway via which those demons can enter into your life?

Sincere prayer to God, according to scripture -- is always the devil's enemy never his friend or ally.

When you pray you summon the "armies of heaven" - they have more power than all the demons combined.

Never be afraid to pray. Be afraid not to pray.

Depends what you mean by praying for someone. If you're just praying and interceding for someone then have at it. Its not only a good thing to do its encouraged. 1Tim. 2/1

Its a different story if you mean the laying on of hands and praying for someone. Paul said to be careful of that. 1Tim. 5/22 The laying on of hands should be an event not an occurrence. As a new christian you shouldn't be doing that anyway.

If you're worried about it happening to you for whatever reason then ask the Lord every morning to guide and direct your steps so that you stay out of trouble. And don't focus on the devil.

Paul is speaking of anointing someone for ministry by the laying on of hands. For example anointing someone as elder or pastor or evangelist. He says we share in the sins of that person if they go around causing people to flee Christianity or to make shipwreck of their faith as a result of the ministry of that person you approved of and laid hands on for ministry.

But this thread is about intercessory prayer for someone. That is very different.

No.
What you need to watch out for is deception and disillusionment when interacting with these people. That's how you can either be inadvertently used by the devil, or how he gets a foothold in your life. If you begin to disrespect, dislike, or even hate any of these people, that's a sign that the devil's work in your life has begun. Deception and disillusionment lead to that, along with a lack of humility.

I meant just general prayers not laying of hands. Thankyou for the reply to my question. Asking god to guide a persons steps to keep them out of trouble sounds a good move also

No.

You open your life to the influence of the demonic by disobedience to God, by partaking in evil things - porn, drugs, violence, occult activities, demonic movies or books, etc.. Merely praying for someone caught in the demonic does not make you vulnerable to demonic attack. Not at all.

That is a very good answer.

No. If you are laying hands on people, you do need to be careful. Make sure that you put on the armour of God every day. Resist pride as if it is the worst poison. Don't give into fear. Keep close to God. Ask God to protect you and keep you in the centre of His will.

I suggest that you read "War on the Saints" by Jesse Penn-Lewis. It tells us how demons work and how to overcome if we are troubled by them.

I'm not sure if that was what he was asking. I agree that intercessory prayer is always good and encouraged.

ok - then are you talking instead about anointing commissioning someone for ministry? In that case I strongly agree you should be very careful before doing it.
