  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what if some ancient texts were found and deciphered and they shed new light on the life of jesus and some of this new information contradicted what is currently in the bible?

I don't see how the discovery of another apocryphal gospel or epistle would matter. There are already lots texts like the one you desribe.

would this make any difference to you in your faith?
What would convince you that the texts were genuine?

It would not really matter if the text was genuine. So what if someone in AD 50 had a different opinion than Luke, Paul, etc.? Like the above poster said, the Bible has already been determined and so anything that contradicts it cannot be true.

Probably would end up being more in line with it.

Like I said, if God wanted additional texts in the Bible, they would already be there.

You mean like how the Biblical canon was already decided before any humans got on the scene?

The NT canon was officially set in, IIRC, 367 AD. That is over three hundred years after Jesus supposedly died. But I suppose God told some master authority that he didn't intend to add anything more after that, just the three hundred years' worth?
