  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do Christians confess-to-be-forgiven when it’s not in the Bible? I need to find a Biblical warrant.

Hear it is¦

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

I think you art saying what I wuz saying. Did you read what I wrote? I was being facetious in saying let's go drink some whiskey, snort coke, and run with hookers! (I'm not Jimmy Swaggert ;) )

Here's another olne to add to yer list:

Romans 8:13,14
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Walking in the Spirit IS actually required to go to Heaven.

Yes as in James, lust=sin=death you could replace lust with many things but as from the beginning sin will bring death.

But we are not left alone the Holy Spirit will guide us,and convict us if we start walking from the will of God.

When we walk from Gods will, booze women coke we become subject to the law of the world.

The God of the air or world becomes you master,he seeks only to kill and destroy.

When we crucify the flesh daily it reinforces our Spiritual life to seek the will of God.

We are of this world but not in this world, our Spirit sits in Heavenly places through Christ.

We truly reside in two places one eternal one temporal, sin should not be easy for the believer but through tradition men have given more attention to sin than giving God glory for redeeming US from sin.

We have been sanctified by the blood today and ever more

It should not be easy for believers to sin. But why do they sin?

The reason is not only giving more attention to sin but giving more attention to remove symptoms rather than the cause of sin.

OFEF (once forgiven ever forgiven) theory pursues to only remove the guilt caused by acts of sin. But exercising a continual faith in the truth that our Lord has condemned and destroyed sin by His Grace pursues elimination of the cause (that is, sin) as well.

OFEF theory seems to be liked by people who have yet not hated their acts of sin. Such people like to cling to their acts of sin but seek the OFEF theory to only try and remove the guilt.

"Relationship" with God is an exercise of faith in His Grace. It involves praying, meditating, confessing, singing from the heart (not hearing music DVD's), instructing one another (Heb 3: 13), teaching His word to believers (Heb 5: 12).

However, most sunday morning church-goers are content to hear sermons every sunday morning rather than allow His Spirit to bring forth "relationship" from the depths of their heart in their personal prayer & meditation times.

Those who propagate OFEF (once forgiven ever forgiven), which is a non-Arminian theory (thereby non-WOF), seem to focus in a one sided and imbalanced manner, only on the Grace of God's forgiveness.

However, God through His word has given us His Grace for us to receive His Son's victory over sin. Focus must must be given to this as well. The imbalanced focus is because there are not much hearers for such sermons as some hearers do not want to give up their acts of sin. OFEF teachers have to teach believers about the necessity of personal prayer & meditation times. Sunday morning worship should not be allowed to replace personal prayer times with God. Moreover, Sunday morning sermons should not be allowed to be substituted for meditation. Believers like to give importance to teachers and their products (sermons, worship leading, books, CD's etc) but not to their personal "relationship" with God.

God wants us to not only have His forgiveness but His Son's victory over sin.

I have to disagree on sin.
Yes are sins were forgiven yesterday, today tomorrow.

God in his perfect grace realizing man will fail in the law,had to be the one himself to atone for us.
This atonement allows man the grace to fail because it is a everlasting covenant.

Here is Gods knowing the things to come for man:

Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Evil from his youth.

Man fails God but God never fails man,we can speak about Christians not walking in sin but if Christ was enough just for us to believe in him he would not have had to suffer the cross.

There is power in the blood,God killed animals shed blood and covered Adam and eve,the Passover lamb in Egypt.
The wages of sin is death God said it he will not change.
Even in the parable of the prodigal Son,the first thing they slaughtered a fatted calf.

The Lords supper this is my body this is my blood.

Knowing Christ or not our sins had to be paid for,and only God could provide a sinless atonement.

The blood of a child only comes from his father,Christ was not marred by past sins of generations his blood was from God himself.

We can never earn or try harder to good works for salvation, our good works are as filthy rags to God our father.

It is only by grace that gives our faith in our salvation.

We are sanctified by faith in the knowing our God our faith puts away the old sin nature and we crucify our flesh daily.

1. Why does man fail God?

Because of lack of exercise of faith in His Grace and not because God has not made a provision for man to not fail Him. Just because God knows man would fail Him does it mean confessing sins are made unnecessary?

When God has given us faith and man does not exercise it to receive and keep the free gift of holiness, shouldn't there be an admission and confession?

2. In the parable of the prodigal son, was a fatted calf slaughtered first?

Before the slaughtering the prodigal son says, " I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee" (Luke 15: 18). Slaughtering follows sin-confession.

3. Should we do good works?

Now, there are two types of works. One that is done "outside" of faith, that is by unbelievers. The other is the one done by believers post conversion and one that is based on faith. Again, which is filthy rags? The former is and latter certainly isn't.

If not our Lord would not have said, "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent" (Rev 2:5).

If the latter were filthy rags why would our Lord need them?

4. Ought the works based on faith, be trusted?

Now, works based on faith are an extension of faith. They are expressions of faith. They are not "works" in a pagan non-Christian sense but the outworking of faith. Thus at the end of the day, it is faith in His Grace that helps receive salvation. When Abraham offered to sacrifice Isaac, he was not doing "works" in a non-Christian sense but instead he was just exercising faith in His Grace "continually".

5. What is "being sanctified" by faith?

Sanctification is through exercising a "continual" faith in His Grace expressed in meditations, petitions, intercessions, confessions, singing songs, instructing one another (1 Thess 4: 18), sharing His word to unbelievers (Philippians 1: 14) etc.

Faith is certainly not substituting personal/private meditation (hearing God's voice) with hearing hundreds of sermons and certainly not substituting personal/private prayer (talking to God) with music-assisted sunday worship.

James 2: 17: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone". (KJV)

Are "works" of God’s people filthy rags? Let us see what His word says...

Rev 2:2: “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience”.
Rev 2:9: “I know thy works”.
Rev 2:13: “I know thy works”.
Rev 2:19: “I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works”.
Rev 2: 23: “and I will give unto every one of you according to your works”.
Rev 3: 1: “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead”.
Rev 3: 2: “for I have not found thy works perfect before God”.
Rev 3:8: “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door”.
Rev 3:15: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot”.
Rev 14: 13: “and their works do follow them”.
Rev 20: 12: “and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works”.
Rev 20: 13: “and they were judged every man according to their works”.

"Works" as commanded by His word of Grace in the new covenant are not works of man but a continuation and expression of faith. In effect, Christian works are the works of His Grace done in and through us when His Grace reigns over us (Rom 5: 21).

When by faith (Gal 2: 20), not we but He lives in us, He by His Grace does works through us as well.

Yeah, proponents of so called "extreme grace" will claim you are teaching WORKS as they lay on the couch eatin tators watching vampire TV shows!

Yes are sins were forgiven yesterday, today tomorrow.

Yeah, confessing Jesus as Lord when you get born-again applies the Blood of Jesus to all sin up till that time... after that, according to 1 John 1:9...
IF
we confess out sin (when the Holy Ghost corrects you), the Lord is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness as to bring us back in to right standing cause... sin is darkness and darkness has no fellowship with Life

1 John also tells us that if we say we have no sin, we are a liar and the truth is not in us... so we do mess up occasionally and we need to listen to the correction of the Holy Spirit, other than that we should be focused on being IN CHRIST and walking with Him in righteousness!

Here's a scripture you won't here to so called "extreme grace" teachers mention...

Hebrews 10:26-29

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (apparently, God remembers these sins since He just said there is no sacrifice for these... unless you use 1 John 1:9 and confess your sin, get cleansed by Jesus' Blood, and REPENT meaning turn away from your sin as in admit it and quit it!)
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
