Our church does. All congregational singing comes form the hymnals. I don't like going to churches that don't, but I also wish our church did not exclude "contemporary" Christian music. They act like the hymns were written at the same time the Bible was, and therefore is divinely given to us. I would like a church to have both.

I can understand that most contemporary Christian music has not had to stand the test of time, but that should not be our test. Our test should be "does it follow God's Word?".

If it does not, then don't sing it. This applies to hymns also, because most songs in a hymnal do not come from the same denomination as the church singing them. I myself have found a few things in hymns, which my church sings as is, which don't match our doctrine.

Most do. We refer to most contemporary worship songs as 7-11, 7 words repeated 11 times. ^_^
lol Sounds about right. :) The church we'll be visiting Sunday does hymns only.

We sing hymns (Trinity hymnal) and some contemporary songs (although we're very particular about which). My church is particularly blessed in that the gentleman who is in charge of music is a talented writer and he has put multiple Psalms and other Scripture passages to music - so while the music might sound a little more contemporary the words are thousands of years old.
