  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it just me, or does pumping all of that toxic, nasty water back into Lake Pontchatrain sound like an invironmental disaster waiting to happen? That lake water ties in with the gulf of Mexico, so what is going to keep it from mixing with it? A reporter asked an engineer this morning about pumping that toxic nasty water back in the lake, and he cut the reporter short. They are talking about it right now, and the man being interviewd agrees that it is dangerous. They are calling in the EPA and other agencies regarding the polluted water. There are people with skin infections that had open cuts that were walking around in that water. They got a big shipment of antibiotic in they said.

I just watched an interview with a reporter on Fox News. He was standing in that water with hip waders on, and told about another reporter a few days ago who now has chemical burns all over his legs from being in that water. That water is like acid, and they are going to pump that back in the lake??!!! This is definately going to affect the invironment :prayer: .

I haven't seen this mentioned in the thread yet. If anyone is interested in reading about what is going on in New Orleans from someone who is there, and has been there all week, check out this blog: http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

The people who work for that company have the only internet still running in New Orleans. They've had working servers all week, and the dozen or so employees have been basically living there the whole time. The military has set up a command post on the first floor of the building they are in, and they've been talking with them to get a lot of their updates. In addition to keeping themselves up and running, they're updating the blog, running a live cam feed, uploading pictures and links, and doing a lot of talking to the media (they are getting a lot of media attention as a result). It's engrossing to see what's going on first-hand from someone in the middle of it all. I've hardly been able to tear myself away all week.

God knows about America and her sins as a nation not "under God" anymore. although she once proudly bore that title. Does the Bible tell us these things will increase in frequency and intensity or not? It does, and we are called to repent of our sins and pray.

I suggest that if God is in a punishing mood, He would look first to those Arab nations that have vowed to removed Israel from the face of the Earth, and kill all Jews, rather than the country (USA) which has given billions of dollars to Israel, and is the best friend Israel has. I repeat, America is, and has been, the best friend Israel has. Why not punish a few of the countries that the suicide bombers come from?

As for America once bearing the title "Under God", I'm afraid I'll have to ask for some evidence of that. Also, if you can provide said evidence, I'll need evidence that America is no longer officially "Under God". Also that God regards it as a sin to not be officially "Under God".

This is a wake up call and we are being punished for our neglect of Jesus commandments to take care of the poor in our midst.

We are being punished for our self rightousness. Many of us have been robbing GOD and giving glory to our government and our elected and appointed leaders.

Thank you Jesus

Where are the figures from 2000 to 2004?

I was thinking about the fact that Israel seems sort of immune to natural disasters. There was a drought which ended in November 2002. But otherwise, not much. Of course, Israelis seem to get blown up with some regularity. Guess I'd rather have a hurricane than be afraid to get on a public bus.

You all believe what you want. The USA will be/is being judged. :(

I heard on a Christian radio that we need to also watch what is happening in Israel. They say that is a sign right there.

Is it just me or does it seem every year we get worse natural disasters then the year before. Granted I havent been on earth that long to really know these things but it just seems weird to me. Florida hit last year, tsunami, volcanoes re-errupting, earth quakes all over the place. Last I heard with hurricane katrina is that by morning theres a possibility that some cities may be non existent. I belive they said this was one of the strongest storms ever.
I think your on to something. Yes storms are stronger and more frequent than in the past.Weve had bad storms before, but not that rocked the whole nation like this one. There's more to it than just local destruction. Fuel prices have gone up 50% as a direct result. This will change everyones life. Especially the poor. We can expect social unrest as this begins to be felt.

What do the courts fight over right now; ever heard the phrase "One nation under God" that at one time was part of the Pledge of Allegiance? Or on our money - "In God We Trust"? Those who call themselves by His name bear a responsibility towards that name, to not take it in vain by saying one thing and then doing that which brings reproach to the Lord's name....
Where does judgment begin according to the scriptures? Judgment to the nations who allign themselves against God comes after the purging with His own house.

1Pe 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

What are we told to do?

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Proverbs 30:8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

It still is.

Let me check my money. Yep, it's still there. What does your money say?

Where does America call itself by the name Yahweh?

This promise is given to Israel, not America. It was a promise for a time of drought or pestilence in Israel. Let's look at the preceding verse, 2Ch 7:13: "If I shut up the heavens, so that there is no rain..." Now, perhaps you aren't aware of what happened in New Orleans. I was under the impression that there was a lot of rain, but I could be wrong about that. ;)

America is not "my people". America is not "called by my name". America is not Israel. Israel is Israel.

Too true. There has only ever been two nations in covenant with God; one was the Jewish nation of ancient Israel, the other being the holy nation and royal priesthood of the Body of Christ, which has citizens from every tribe, tongue, and political nation.

And last I checked, every poll I've seen states that the vast majority of Americans want the pledge to remain unchanged. America is not a dictatorship; no one could force Michael Newdow not to take his complaint to the courts. Personally, I could care less whether what is written in the Pledge or on our money changes; we should care that the statutes of Christ are written on our hearts, not on our money or in some grade-school pledge that I haven't cared about in 13 years.

In Christ,

Acts6:5

I'm sorry, I just have to comment on this; You believe that God looked at America and saw that the country's poor weren't being taken care of. So He decided to bring judgment in the form of a hurricane that ended up killing or displacing hundreds of thousands of poor Americans, leaving them even more destitute and impoverished, while those of us who neglected Jesus' commandments were left untouched, other than having a hike in gas prices? So how have we been punished?

And since millions of Americans have rallied together on our own accord and have raised over 500 million dollars for these displaced citizens, as well as opening our homes to complete strangers, does that mean, as a result of such incredible nationwide acts of charity and mercy, that the "wake up call" you mentioned has been answered, Daniel?
