CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today was such a beautiful day (up until the quick rain showers) that it was difficult to believe we had that monster heading towards us. Ofcourse looking around town at almost every place being boarded up helps for it to sink in.

Hey Bear - I live in the Big Bend area (Tallahassee). We are expecting some tropical storm force winds and LOTS OF RAIN. We got our hurricane supplies ready in case we lose power and we have are battening down the hatches tomorrow.TheBear said:I live in Northeast Florida. We're not getting out of this one unscaved. Can you imagine living 5,000 years ago? Everyone was pretty much blind-sided by these storms..... even up to recent history. The technology used today saves countless lives. Even in these massive storms, the death tolls are extremely low, considering the vast areas of impact.

5am update from National Hurricane Center shows it being a strong category 2, but moving very slow at 5 knots. That doesn't bode well. I saw some people on the news earlier posing the rhetorical question, which is worse, 4 hours of 200 mile an hour wind or 24 hours of 105 mile an hour wind?
I hope our Florida members are either safely evacuated or hunkered down. You'll be in my thoughts.

I live in Seminole County Florida...We are supposed to see winds of 70 to 75 mph by Sunday morning...Right now the weather is ok...The wind and rain pick up off and on..Still have power which is great...During Charley we lost power for 5 1/2 days! Hopefully everything goes ok when the storm gets here...I have faith in the Lord and I know that he will protect me

My prayers go out right now, for all my Floridian neighbors. Especially to those who are barely getting things cleaned up after Charlie, and now have to deal with Frances. Also, my prayers go out to all the people of Port Saint Lucie right now. I hope they were all able to evacuate safely. And, my prayers go out to the Fire & Rescue, PD, and others who put their lives on the line to save others. Finally, my prayers go out to all in the direct path of Frances. After she crosses Florida, Frances has a chance of strengthening over the gulf before hitting the panhandle. I hope all stay safe.

I was really worried about my friends at the James Randi Educational Foundation, which is located in Ft. Lauderdale, but the last update from the Administrative Assistant there says they still have power.

We had one power outage so far....trees and power lines down all over the place. This pattern of squalls and feeder band activity will be going on all night into tomorrow afternoon.

I stand with my brothers and sisters in Israel!
I understand from the neighbors that my huge oak tree split in two - one part ended up across the road and the other part "brushed" past my house. Thank you Father for sparing my home. Thank you for all the others who will be spared. Father, dampen down the winds and lessen the rain in this storm and hurry it on its way! Thank you Father; thank you Jesus!

At least the well defined eye seems to have collapsed on Frances. Ivan doesn't seem to have one yet, but he's got plenty of time suck heat off the Carribbean before heading into the Gulf. I hate to say this, but if he has to hit anywhere, I hope it's along LA, TX, Mex., because Florida's had more than enough already this year.
