  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just thought I'd save a space for the dark side of "the season".
Actualy, I was too sick to go the office party & I only stopped in for an hour at the relative's house so I wouldn't infect anybody.
I'm feelin' better enough today(Christmas), to go to a Chinese Restaurant(the only ones open) for carry out, & to meet some Jews.^_^

I stopped by a grocery store on the way home, and they had left all their lights on, so everybody thought they were still open. Dozens of cars were comin' & goin', makin' it look busy, but people were parkin' their cars & walkin' all the way up to the doors before figurin' it out & turnin' around. I got to the door & read the sign. Frustrated, I turned around & headed back to my car, but I stopped a half-dozen people from wastin' their time by tellin' 'em it was closed. We were gettin' back in our cars & I said,"Don't ya just hate it when people try & take the commerce out of Christmas?" It got a few laughs.

Yeah, I haven't done much on Christmas the past few years either. After I left for college, my parents ceased most of the traditions (especially the gift-giving). Of course I'd come back for the holidays, but I'd be too burned out from finals to care that there was nothing under the tree.

This year we didn't even have a tree! But I did get my unbelieving parents to attend the Christmas Eve service with me, which I think was a far better Christmas present than an overpriced electronic item.

God bless ya, Brother Otto! Hope you are feeling much better today.

We had a quiet couple of days. Our church service was beautiful on Sunday morning. If you would like a copy of the service, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. I'm saving a copy for when we have family visit, it will make a nice family worship.

The weather was nasty here yesterday but we had no place to go. I made oven-baked dutch apple pancakes (www.foodtv.com -- search under dutch apple pancakes and select the one by Paula Deen) for breakfast and we had hot turkey pesto sandwiches and a salad for dinner.

My children are teens now, each received one "big" gift -- my 16 yr old son got an MP3 player (daughter already has an iPod) and my 13 yr old daughter got a new battery for her laptop. My husband and I didn't exchange this year as we are getting ready to begin remodeling a bathroom and my desktop is on its last leg and I will get a laptop when it finally expires.

I'm not much of a shopper so the idea of getting up at daybreak and "looking for a bargain" is not my idea of fun. I'm in the "de-accumulation mode" at this stage of my life. Besides, unless it is some out of this world deal, I would rather pay a buck or two more for it and not deal with crowds and the traffic in the parking lots.

I think I am sufficiently coffee'd up so I am going to tackle some laundry and pack up. We're going to a little family reunion at my Dad's for a couple of days. This will be the first time we have all been together for the holidays in 12 yrs.

I made the most awesome french toast using the Panettone bread my Aunt gave to us! Slice it on the thin side (otherwise it doesn't cook through and is "gooey"), my batter is eggs, a little 1/2 & 1/2 and a pinch of salt and pepper. YUM.

CC&E-will definitely be dieting next week

My wife and I tried to occupy ourselves around the house yesterday 'til we couldn't take it anymore, and went out and found a chinese place open for dinner. As we drove around the nearly empty streets I remember commenting on how ironic it was that everything was closed on such a consumer based materialistic holiday.

My wife was admitted to the hospital yesterday - so hasn't been the greatest Christmas for us here. Prayers greatly appreciated. She is a migrane sufferer and has got one so bad this time (goin on a month now) that her brain is starting to swell...

At least she made it through Christmas mornig before having to go in...

On a positive note - I was able to finally take a look at the 1599 Geneva Bible that I ordered on my wife's behalf (one of her gifts for me..:)) So far I'm quite impressed.... I'm going to read through it front to cover once I get done with what I'm reading now...

Praying for your wife - for God's perfect healing. Also, for her caretakers - that they be guided by wisdom and be able to provide for her healthcare needs.

Praying for your wife to be relieved of such pain! Such a long time to experience such misery. I pray she will find relief also from future migraines.

I also like my new 1599 Geneva Bible. Not sure when I'll be through this reading to begin in that one though. Great treat in store!
