I used to live up in Klamath when I was in the CCC, so I've been in Arcata/Eureka quite a bit.

That was 18 years ago or so, and things have changed a bit since then. I've got a question that maybe you could help me with.

I work for the Department of Fish and Game, and since Mad River hatchery closed, we've picked up a few of their fish plants, including Freshwater Lagoon. The only place I know of to stop for lunch on the way back is Fast Food Lane...er...uh...Guintolli (sp?) Road b/w 101 and 299. Any other lunch places you could recommend not too far off my route? For instance, Samoa Cookhouse is way too far off my route. It's already a long day (I'm coming from about 45 minutes east of Redding!), so I don't have a lot of time to go out and explore. I guess I'm looking for something not more than 5 minutes off that 101/299 route.

Thanks!!

What kind of food? What atmosphere? How far north are you going? Orick has a new Mexican restaurant. I hear it is real good! Central Ave in McKinleyville has many restaurants. They are similar to those on Guintoli. My favorite on Central is Niveen’s. I don’t venture into Toon Town (Arcata) very much but my favorite Hunan restaurant is there. Blue lake has one of my favorite redneck restaurants. Always plenty of room, sweet people and good food. Also in Blue Lake is the casino. I hear the food is real good (never been there.

I have been doing restoration work in this area for the last 25 years. I have had many contracts with DFG.

Mexican food in Orick sounds like just what the doctor ordered! I'll check it out. I imagine it would be right on 101, huh? I meanb, is there anything else to Orick? :)

What's the name of the redneck restaurant in Blue Lake? That one sounds good, too. Where would it be at? There's a little more to Blue Lake than Orick!

The Mexican restaurant in Orick is on the north side of the Redwood Creek bridge on the east side of 101. It's about one hundred feet from the bridge. One thing to note while drinking the water is that I live upstream and swim in it! ^_^

The restaurant in Blue Lake is about a half mile off 299 on Blue Lake Blvd. No right, no left just straight ahead. It is next to the gas station. It's called the Blue Lake Burger Bar. You can't miss it. The water is good! ^_^

Hey All,

I'm from Humboldt as well. I've been here 10+ years, most of it in Arcata. (no, not a student, rather a youth minister). I have since relocated to Eureka.

I relocated from the Victorville / Big Bear region of Southern California.

I used to live in the "Victorian Village of Ferndale". I think Humboldt County is the most beautiful part of California.

How can you lump Victorville and Big Bear together? One is in the desert (I used to be stationed at George AFB) and the other is high in the mountains (been there as I was raised in So. Cal.).

Was born and raised in Eureka. Went to Franklin Elementary, Zane Jr High and Eureka Sr High then I went in the service and left for a while. Use to go to Full Gospel Tabernacle out in Cutten (helped build it many years ago). My older kids live up there still. Anyhooos, yeah, I am from Humboldt County. My dad was the Post Master at Kneeland for a while. Use to do a lot of salmon/steelhead fishing on the Eel.

Easily when you've lived in both of them ;)

Oh, and I wouldn't call 7000 feet elevation "high in the moutains" when Victorville is at 3000. Going to take a wee-bit more then 4000 feet to call something "high". ;) Now Mount Shasta at 14000 feet I think we can safely say would be "high in the moutains"...

I have been here for fifty plus four years and love it. If I would have my choice of any where in the world to live it would be right here.
