Compare these two passages:

Isaiah 14:12-20:

"How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!

How you are cut down to the ground,

you who laid the nations low!

13 You said in your heart,

I will ascend to heaven;

above the stars of God

I will set my throne on high;

I will sit on the mount of assembly

in the far reaches of the north;

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

I will make myself like the Most High.’

15 But you are brought down to Sheol,

to the far reaches of the pit.

16 Those who see you will stare at you

and ponder over you:

‘ Is this the man who made the earth tremble,

who shook kingdoms,

17 who made the world like a desert

and overthrew its cities,

who did not let his prisoners go home?’

18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory,

each in his own tomb;

19 but you are cast out, away from your grave,

like a loathed branch,

 clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword,

who go down to the stones of the pit,

like a dead body trampled underfoot.

20 You will not be joined with them in burial,

because you have destroyed your land
you have slain your people." (ESV)

And Philippians 2:5-8:

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant,being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." (ESV)

I find it interesting to contrast the humility of Jesus Christ and the arrogance of Satan, as described in these passages.

Of course, the Isaiah passage is debateable.

Thoughts? I think the word you're looking for is "humility." ;)

So apart from being a grammar freak, do I have any thoughts? Yes. Very good contrast. The importance of being humble is something we forget all too often in our daily lives. Another great passage on Christ's humility is where he washes the feet of the disciples (I don't know the verses off the top of my head).

Interesting topic.

One of the reasons I am overjoyed to be a Christian is that I am following a humble Lord. I love 2 Corinthians 8:0, which says "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor that ye through his poverty might be rich." How meek, condescending and selfless! Everything Christ did was for our benefit and for the glory of the Father. This led him to live a life of poverty and sorrow for our sakes. Isaiah 53 says he was a "man of sorrows and acquainted with grief." I am also thinking of a verse but I don't know where it is that says "a bruised reed shall he not break and smoking flax shall he not quench." This speaks of the gentleness of Christ. He is sensitive to our every need and our every concern. I have noticed in life that people who have been through a lot of hardship (if they don't allow it to make them bitter) are often very compassionate and caring and sensitive to others' needs. Christ suffered unspeakably on earth so he could be touched with the feelings of our infirmities. What a comfort.

Finally, it is so good not to be a child of the devil anymore because he is so proud and arrogant. He only thinks of himself. He is out to destroy us and try to rob God of glory. "The thief cometh not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy, but I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly." John 10:10

Blessings in Christ.

This is a prophecy against the House of Judah in Jerusalem. One reason Christ was sent was to save the "lost sheep" from the corrupt and murderous jewish priest and religious leaders, who were laying in bed with Rome instead of worshipping God and and leading the people as God wanted. It was the "common" innocent jews that were being mislead by God's priest and temple guardians, and is why Christ referred to them only as "devil", not the common jew.

Isai 1:2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; 3 The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; [But] Israel does not know, My people do not consider." 4 Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward. 5 Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints. 10 Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: 11 "To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. 12 "When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts? 13 Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies -- I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. 14 Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing [them.]

Malachi 2:1 "And now, O priests, this commandment is for you. 2 If you will not hear, And if you will not take [it] to heart, To give glory to My name," Says the LORD of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take [it] to heart.........11 Judah has dealt treacherously, And an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, For Judah has profaned The LORD's holy [institution] which He loves: He has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Malachi 4:1 "For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up," Says the LORD of hosts, "That will leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

matth 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 "and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as [our] father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 "His winnowing fan [is] in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

revel 18:15 "The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 "and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 'For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.' Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 "and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What [is] like this great city?' ........... 23 "The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 "And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth."
