  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Rights are things you have that you can defend from force or fraud. It implied but not explictly clear. It comes from reasoning that since all humans have the same faculties[senses, a body, life and etc] then as such we must all have the same protections of Life, Liberty and Property. :) Course that's just me.

heres where its not absolute: where does it become just? I say everyone has a right to free speech. That isnt absolute. I can't scream fire in crowded mall. I'm not a moral absolutist and I believe in human rights. Please don't make the error of thinking religion=morals. Plenty of nonreligious are moral, and plenty of religious are immoral.

Let's get a little deeper. What is that definition based on?
Hmm, I'm not sure. That's just the way it's always been. We'd be in a lot of trouble if we decided right now to start messing around with the definitions of words.

BTW, why does your age show as "14"?
Perhaps because I'm 14?

Nobody said anything about equating religion with moral absolutes, so perhaps you can temper your prejudice against religion for the meanwhile?

BTW, your right to free speech does allow you to lie & scream "fire" at a crowded mall, however, justice demands that you are denied your right to be treated with respect if you do so.

No justice does not or should not say that, it says you will be punished for creating a public hazard by doing that.

& the punishment is? On the level of social justice, the liar would be deservedly called an "idiot", lose credibility etc. ie. lose his right to be respected.

The legal justice may penalise him with a fee, or temporarily deny him his right to freedom.

What you might find as providing diginity I may not.
Depends on how many languages you speak. I can speak 3 languages, & understand whether I am being spoken to with dignity & respect in those languages.

I say to you "basi tama ka!" - are you being dignified or insulted?

Okay again, absolute is not equivocal to objective. So please stop with the use of the word absolute in replacement of objective. Bleh! Well anyways the basic reason for humans rights is because we're well all humans. To oppose human rights is sorta like saying "I hate myself and I wanna die horribly." I don't think even the most depressed goth would say that. :)

Lol, now you know how fundamentalist Christians feel about those who "reject Christianity".

Bear, I was surprised too.... but he is... K., take it as a compliment. Like it or not, you don't come off as a typical 14 year old. You are far too knowledgeable, articulate and gosh darn perceptive... maybe if you start saying "like" every other word people will be more apt to believe you.... oh, and I a not 97... just for the record. But really we should just reflect on the musings of that sage Allyah..... "age ain't nothing but a number"..... sorry, couldn't resist. :D
