  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I returned here to discuss it, but have allowed myself to get drawn into the Bible-speak. I can't say that it is all my fault, but it's hard to keep quiet when people misrepresent the truth about my God (as referred to in the ancient Apostle's Creed) - my Father, the Almighty, ( maker of the heavens and earth ) < a later addition.

I am sorry to those of you I may have insulted as a result, but my only desire was to discuss Evolution. In particular HUMAN EVOLUTION.

So what am I still worried about?

Well, it seems to me that the fossil record is not as sure a thing as I have been led to believe. So could someone explain the evidence as it relates to HUMAN EVOLUTION with regard to the HUMAN GENOME PROJECT.

Please no links, just tell me in your own words.

Thanks in advance,
Lewis.

I'd like to seize the opportunity to thank those who are making my experience here such a pleasure. Especially those who are participating in my 1st post : LINES OF EVIDENCE and FLOOD GEOLOGY. I am currently reading them and the others, paying particular attention to where I have messed up. It is true we learn far more from our faults, weaknesses than we do from our strengths.

I look forward to reading your responses to my opening post.

I guess it would be the points and patterns of similarity between humans, chimps and extinct related species like neanderthal and denisova?

Humans and neanderthals are more similar to one another then either are to chimpanzees. But, humans and chimps are more similar to each other then either are to gorillas.

That's a basic, in my own words version of the genomic evidence for human evolution.

Does anyone more knowledgeable want to add something or correct something?

Sure - the human genome project, as such, had little bearing on the notion of human evolution specifically. It did, however, map out the many evolutionary genetics phenomena results that had been known and/or hypothesized to have occurred - duplication events, ERVs, etc.

In conjunction with the chimp and gorilla genome projects, along with other large-scale sequencing projects, larger phylogenetic analyses could be performed which all but confirmed the previous smaller-scale analyses done using both fossil/morphological and DNA data.

Of course it helped be more confident about what scientists had been sure about, right?

So it gave credence to the myth of evolution. right?

What phylogenetic analyses?

Science can only examine future events.

Until science creates a time machine to actually re-experience a
past event, all the stories about the past are just science-fictions.

Translation: Enough with the wisecracks and please explain yourself?
What wisecracks? I gave you a link to a detailed explanation of one facet of the genetic evidence for evolution. The explanation is related to the Human Genome Project, and it's written by me in my own words.

That English not sentence is. I also have no idea what you mean.

Are you saying that there is a continuous change between chimp genome and human genome?

If so, you think it is an excellent evidence of genetic relationship?

Did you read his link? The patterns with which the two genomes have diverged since evolving from a common ancestor match almost perfectly the mathematical models of probability we can use to measure that divergence.

I checked the link and there were hundreds of words, now that you've shared a few more by way of a description of what is there -- why not enlighten us further by bringing it onto this thread. A summary, with that link again might help bring a little sunshine. Thanks in advance.

I will grant you physicists are divided and uncertain, but biologist and geneticists do not suffer the same problem when it comes to Human Evolution -- for there are lines of evidence relating to Evolution which establish it as a scientific fact, unless you actually have some real science to convince them otherwise?
