Human Being/ Human Doing

Some people are human beings and some are human doings.

Human Doings rush around, trying to get a lot of things done to make themselves feel useful and their lives meaningful.

Human Beings enjoy periods of simply feeling the joy of existing.



Human Doings pray, worship, dance, fast and serve to impress God and maybe others.

Human Beings pray, worship, dance, fast and serve because they love God.



Human Doings read books about God to make themselves better Christians.

Human Beings read books about God for the pure pleasure of knowing Him.


Human Doings look at a tree and think about what they could build from it.

Human Beings look at a tree and think about what God has built from nothing.


Human Doings give everything they have to God.

Human Beings give thanks to God for everything.


Sometimes I am nothing but a Human Doing, and I forget to be a Human Being.

A good example of this is Mary and Martha. Martha was rushing around, doing and doing, while Mary was content with being at the feet of Jesus.
And which one did Jesus say had chosen the good thing?

There are times we get so busy doing FOR God, we forget to be WITH God.

I like this Lambslove, I also like what WW pointed out about the need to remember to spend time with God. That's the most important thing we can do. It's how we learn to serve Him in a more complete way.

Shame is a deep, deep wound of being that is a result of the cursing of a person identity. Shame as opposed to guilt, is a deep feeling of wrongness of being.

Guilt, on the other hand, is a feeling of wrongness of action. Guilt says, “ I made a mistake” Shame says, ”I am a mistake.” If I make a mistake, there is hope. I can repent. The blood of Christ can forgive me, and I can change and not make the mistake again. However, if I am a mistake, there is no hope for me. I can change what I do. But I can’t change what I am.

Many people continually try to rid themselves of the feeling of shame through doing things that they hope will help. They then become human doings instead of human beings.

As for myself, I know what I am doing. Though there be some doubts in the minds of many, I am a human doing, to the best of my ability, the job God called me to do. Do I make mistakes? lol Oh yeah! But I know when I am doing the will of God in my life, He will be there to pick me up when I fall and to aid me when I stumble and falter.

So I have renewed my commitment to doing His will and to caring not a wit what others think. Because whether they approve of me or not, matter not at all. What they will get from me is the Words of Jesus, and If I am rejected, it is not me they reject, it will be rather the things Jesus says that they do not like. And Jesus is far better able to handle that than I am.

That's exactly what happens. Or, they don't know how to get close to the Lord, so they do things for Him, hoping that will be good enough.

Or, sometimes, people who don't know the Lord at all will do good things thinking that that is what He wants from them.

Shame is a deep feeling of contamination, uncleanness, and of being uniquely flawed. It causes you to feel inept, different, and isolated from others. It’s like “I don’t have what it takes to be a success” or “I don’t belong”. We need to see ourselves the way God sees us. We need to change our shame into glory. He already made a way for you to deal with sin. Sin cannot stand between you and God because the blood of the Lamb is there to wash your sins away.

Amen! And this "feeling of contamination, uncleanness, and of being uniquely flawed", has no place in the life of a Christian who has been cleansed by the Blood of Jesus; it portrays a lack of faith/belief in what God has already promised to those who are His children.

You have to believe Satan has a hand in the feeling of unfaithfulness, uncleanliness, contamination, sinfullness, unworthiness etc..etc...etc...

Sometimes, for a Christian as strong as I feel, I feel weakened by the powers of unworthiness. It's a spiritual warfare, we know that! But the worst warfare I think I have is my own battle with myself. Trying to understand how someone can love someone like me.

I wish I could feel like a Human Being all the time...but Human Doing seems to be in the forefront.

Ode To be more in Love and closer with God. It's why I serve.

Thank you for this thread, it makes me reevaluate myself and where these feelings come from.
