so I'm relatively new to classical music. I've turned to alternative forms of music the past few years of my life because I'm tired of what my generation thinks music is. There is some country music that I like (not much out of nashville) and I've been getting into bluegrass (largely due to Alison Krauss and her amazing voice).

Anyway, my dad used to play a Mozart CD every weekend when I was a little kid. The music filled the household and I enjoyed it. I'd like to buy some type of contemplation that has all of the classical songs everyone has heard at some point in their lives, but doesn't know the names of. From there, I'd like to buy music from the composers I most enjoy. I saw an infomercial a while back that had a bunch of songs I've heard before, but I can't remember the name of the contemplation. If anyone could give me a suggestion on my first classical music purchase, I'd really appreciate it.

PS: I think Pachebel's Canon in D is as close to musical perfection as man is capable of. What do yall think?

I'd suggest you buy anything in the Golden Classics series (especially "Classical Melodies")...you can usually get them at Wal-Mart and they're really inexpensive! Plus there's two discs in every case.

I don't know...I might have to argue with you there...Tcaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite is pretty much God's gift to creation! :p

Don't know if you'd be interested in opera or classical vocal music, but check out Mozart's "Laudate dominum." Wonderfully performed by the knockout Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins.

Actually, I'm an atheist, but if any piece of music could have come from God, this would be it.
