  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey! I have a two year old son who is a high functioning autistic child. he is my sweetheart! He has the sweetest nature and luckily does not have any of the violent tendencies that can appear. He is always well behaved and rarely even throws a temper tantrum. But for a two year old he should be. He cannot talk to us and he does not socialize outside his immediate family, no grandparents, no aunts, uncles, cousin, no one but us. Oh, he has a little bro 9 months and he ignores him too. We are starting speech therapy soon and I look forward to watching him grow. We have began to start a daily schedule and i have already seen great strides with him. I love him dearly and can't wait to see how God will work through him with this. I know He is already using us. We have our frustrating days, but I know my son feels more than I do. Especially when his little brother wants to play and follows him around the house all day! LOL! I have found that his little brother has also brought frustrating to him, but good changes to Stephen too. I thank God everyday for my boys and can't wait to see what comes tomorrow. God gives us these special children as gifts and I feel blessed he saw fit that i should be given the care of this precious child. I know there are more patient and worthy women than myself, but God gave me one of His special children to my care! I can't wait to share more about Stephen and Andrew and all our fun!!

Welcome to this little corner of CF!

My son is also HFA, he's 5 1/2 now and has a 4 year old sister. She has turned out to be his best therapist.

My son is in mainstream schooling now and communicates with everyone (in fact we are working on who he can and cannot talk to now). He loves going to school and riding the school bus. He has many friends although he doesn't always talk about them as other children his age might talk about their friends.

I'm so glad you found our corner and look forward to hearing about your boys :)

 My son Paul has come sooo far and Im very very proud of him. I hope you both will know that time will bring more answers and more maturity and it does get easier. My son has ADHD-NOS, which is the umbrella term for all symptoms of behavior that is different than the norm. His therapist says because of his great interest in numbers he is probably in the Aspergers group. He uses clonidine to sleep each nite, since age 3yrs. and he uses staterra in the am, to keep himself more focused on his work at school. We have used the stratera over a year and if he doesnt use it,we notice he is more easily distracted and unfocused. I am so thankful to God for my only son Paul. He is my youngest. The neurologist and others have said ADHD is usally inherited from a male relative. His dad has the same neurological problem. Well, God is good, and we have used support from Youth Advocate Program and they have made the greatest and biggest difference in his life. We started at age two with the Colonial IU20 and then at age three he received preschool with speech and ocupational therapist. He was sleeping at school, so the neurologist suggested the clonidine to help him sleep the nights through, which was a great relief. The first couple weeks, the medicine was affecting his urine retention, but his body then adjusted and hes been fine for 5 years on it. On a weekend nite if he doesnt use it, he will stay up all night. I caught him once at 6am and on the computer and he never went to bed, so I find the clondine extremely helpful.
:crossrc: God bless you both and your childrena and famlies. Hope I make my way back here. Remind me , PM me, if you have question. bye for now. Julie

I have an update, they believe my son as PDD and is hearing impaired. This can change everything so dramatically, please be in prayer for us!
I'll be praying for you all.
My 6 year old daughter has PDD-NOS as well. She is also high functioning which can make certain therapies more difficult. She loves her speech therapist though ( she didn't talk much at all until she was about 3 1/2.) She speaks very well now. She'll be in kindergarten next school year so we are working towards getting her ready for that transition. She has been in a special integrated preschool for 3 years now. I certainly am blessed to have her and my other two children, but I know it can be rough sometimes. If you ever need someone to talk to -- I'm here!

my son luke is 3 yrs and 4 mos old. His diagnosis is
PDD-NOS with Dyspraxia. They say he is mild to moderate on the autism scale. He is fascinated with numbers and letters. He didnt start talking till one week after his 3rd birthday. He now can count to ten and say the alphabet. He will repeat anny and all words now but though he is good with vowels he has a hard time with many consanants and its very hard to understand him. He was in early intervention therapies for 15 mos, then private therapies for 3 mos over the summer. On Aug 23 he started his special-ed pre-school and he goes 5 days a week and he loves it. We have seen so much improvement these past 4 mos. One of my concerns is that he is like a parrot..he repeats what you say alot but doesnt use words appropriately very often except when he says "hi mommy" or "bye mommy". its mostly repeating though like i will say "bye sweetie" then he says "by sweetie" but if i say "bye Luke" he will say "bye luke". He is very smart and even knows how to spell his name and he has good receptive communication. You cand tell him to throw something in the garbage and he will. You can tell him to get the babies diaper and he will. I just really hope he will have full speech someday. How is everyone elses children doing?
