Am I the only one here that remebers this great kids tv show? Howdy, Bob Smith, Clarabelle The Clown (who never spoke a word until that classic last show at the very end when he spoke the last words heard on the show-"Goodbye Kids"), Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring, and all the others that lived in Doodyville?

Innocent TV-wonderful TV!

Back in the '70s there were attempts to revive the Howdy Doody series.
The first was in September 1973 when NBC had Buffalo Bob, Clara and Howdy host a preview of that year's Saturday morning cartoon lineup.
That was one of my favorite TV specials (LOL), considering Howdy's first show ended in 1960, the year one of my brothers was born.

A couple of years after the 1973 TV special, a new
series was started in syndication but it folded after a season as a failure. I think I may have watched only one episode of it. Was probably by the time I turned 16, so by then any chance the puppet would charm me was gone, replaced by teenage rebellion! LOL

Did you know Howdy also appeared as an icon for a chain of Howdy's Hamburgers joints? We had one here in Brockton (Mass.), that was open from the 60s til the mid 70s.

To wrap this up, my mom once told me a story about my oldest brother (born in '46) and a Howdy Doody related incident. Back I'd say in 1950, relatives of ours down the street had a TV while my family didn't. So my brother would go to our relatives' to watch TV, then I guess the first time he got to watch TV he came home and greeted my mom saying "Howdy Doody!" For some odd reason Mom thought he was being fresh or naughty cuz 'doody' was our family word for poop, crap, turd, etc.... I only hope she didn't spank him for saying that LOL... Made no sense since that expression already existed. Probably more common in the south.
