• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi. I am 20 and yet already dependant on alcohol. This is sad and I do not know where to turn. I attempted to just, stop, and found it had VERY negative effects. I am on medications which I hear can be lethal with alcohol and yet I cannot stop either one. I do not know what to do. I am depressed and using it to cope, or rather mask the underlying issues. I do not have medical insurance and need prayer.

Oh, you are so very young to have that problem - have you tried AA - IT DOES WORK!! But you have to make sure that the meetings you go to are in a church - this doesn't always mean it is a Christian group - but usually does.
I will be praying very hard for you - please let me know how it goes! Hedi

Oddbeani, I started drinking at age 16. I'm a recovering alcoholic and addict as well.

First the AA idea is solid. AA does work and you can find a meeting almost anywhere in the country on any given day.

If you have been drinking heavily, stopping all of a sudden can produce seizures and even death. Withdrawl from alcohol is more dangerous than withdrawl from Heroin.

Go to your County Health Department. They can tell you there what kind of public assistance is available and how to get it.

Remember, there is no shame in asking for help getting yourself back on track.

Take care and know that we're all praying for your strength and safety.

So, in update of things...
My last drink was on the 30th of April. I did indeed go to my county health dept and they set me up with an intern who is actually a grad student from my college and seems to know a less than me about some stuff...weird. Anyway, thank you to you all who have been praying...it's been hard, very very very hard, but I think I might just make it.

I'm glad to hear that. Keep your head up. It may be difficult but the benefits are well worth it.

As like with the others here, hang in there, keep up the faith! its not an easy road - I been sober for almost 2 yrs and clean for almost 3. For me it was an easy decision to make but a hard one for me to follow and to want to stick with it to clean up BUT its worth it. It really is. I remember where I was last night and I am not sick, hungover or "anxious" for a hit today and I got money in my wallet. It is well worth it.

So, hang in there, your doing great. You may not think it or feel it time to time but your doing great!
