  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question.
This is number of Deaths per 100,000
1900 only adds up to about 1100.
2010 only adds up to about 600

So what are the rest dying from?

It's deaths per year, and people are simply dying less (or living longer) today. With longevity increasing every year you will have that effect. Perhaps figures will stabilize at 600/100,000/year from now on since main causes (at least for the near future) seem to be inevitable.

Yeah, for a minute there I thought you were going to pull a no true Scotsman on me :) But I seriously do wonder why those countries with 99%+ Christians are not more fortunate than others.

Do you think these scientists and doctors responsible for the improvements in agriculture, nutrition, and medicine got their information by reading the bible and praying or by observation, scientific research, and discovery?
Wisdom & Knowledge comes from God if science wants to admit that or not. God created us and to be able to understand the universe. He created the univese in a way we could understand His creation. We are told: "By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place;"

If you do not believe wisdom and knowledge comes from God, then show me by what mechanism wisdom and knowledge evolved. Just what mutation took place so that we have more wisdom then the monkeys or apes.

What I would like to know is how you can be so determined why wisdom and/or knowledge is given by god.
Also if you're going to argue that intelligence is different from wisdom/knowledge, please specify.

I wish that someday all the people who clutter up this subforum with endless spam on epidemiology and theology would learn to use the subforums for those subjects so we could discuss actual science.

How does one know we have more "wisdom" than the monkeys or apes?

If we were suddenly transported to the middle of a pod of gorillas in a jungle somewhere, would we have the "wisdom" to fit in there immediately?

Or do ya think maybe the gorillas have the wisdom to live where and how they do?

Is there a subforum for vacuous aphorisms?

They have tests to measure that stuff. For example they have a test high school students are expected to pass. Culture does play a part so at times you may have to adjust your test accordingly. I think I read somewhere that monkeys and apes test out at about the level of a three year old.

The theory here is that brain size is connected to intelligence. So does that mean men have more IQ them women because their brains are bigger?

What I would like to know is how you can be so determined why wisdom and/or knowledge is given by god.
That is creationism.

Also if you're going to argue that intelligence is different from wisdom/knowledge, please specify.
You could check the dictionary. But I think intelligence or IQ is the ability to be able to learn or acquire wisdom and knowledge. Some have to work harder at it then others.

Size isn't the only factor:
The use of tools conferred a crucial evolutionary advantage, and required a larger and more sophisticated brain to co-ordinate the fine hand movements required for this task.

That is creationism.
So you don't care about if that statement might be wrong. Fun.

I was just trying to prevent some boring argument that there is some kind of 'knowledge-bank' that everything is utilizing, created by god (thanks for the answer though :) ).

No. Brain size is a good indicator for intelligence, but between the two sexes the differences are negligible.

You could check the dictionary. But I think intelligence or IQ is the ability to be able to learn or acquire wisdom and knowledge.
It's not. For one thing, IQ and intelligence are not the same thing, the former being notoriously difficult to pin down.

I don't acutally believe in suecide, now when somone mentioned that. In my experience, fear of death can trigger death. First fear for dying, no matter whether it is being overwheeled by a truck or through cancer. Something cause a wicked feeling - fear for death - And this fear causes you to die. Simply, when you are overwheeled of a truck, you die instantaneously from the fear that the pain and situation cause you. Same goes with cancer. The cancer causes such great pain, that you start feel fear of death, and this fear causes you to die. As for suecide, in my expeirence you change your mind, but the snare, or pills causes the same kind of fear, that kills you..

You do realize that a double negative equals a positive. The statement comes from my understanding of the Bible. I know the Bible is accurate and true. I may fall short, my understanding of the truth may fall short. But the truth is and always well be the truth.

My sentence was constructed correctly. The two negatives was in different parts of the sentence, it's quite obvious I didn't write something that could be equalled to:
"So you care about if that statement might be right. Fun."

I agree with the last part, the truth is always the truth. Per definition. However, you say you know the bible is accurate and true, while stating that your understanding of the truth might fall short.
Isn't that admitting that the bible mightn't be true?
