  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello I have a Question. I am fairly new to this Messianic movement i got myself a Talli/prayer shawl recently I believe that was the Holy Spirit leading me to do so to draw closer to God in prayer.

Anyway as a Believer I believe in Jesus and such but like one thing I struggled with as a Christian is to understand the Old Testament and it's Proper Role. I would like to study the Torah & Old Testament scriptures but in a way that helps me understand the proper role of it and such in the New Covenant. I think primarily it is my weakness understanding the law because as a Christian they teach you the New Testament first then you learn about the law later. So I know more about the New Testament than the old. I do believe that Jesus (Yeshua) was the Fulfillment of the law though.

Anyway what is a good way to study the Old Testament Scriptures where should I start? is there a website that anyone can reference also if i has sermons or something or something I can read also would be helpful too.

I am just working over summer so I will have time to do this after I get home from work, and possibly go over the Old Testament since I don't have anything else better to do sometimes.

The most serious failing by believers is that, they do not give much thought to the parabolic language of scriptures. Many words are not literal, but parabolic. For this reason many have come to imagine vain things.

What do you mean by that? what are you referring to by Parabolic can you give me an example? I'm confused

As an example the word "fire" is often used to mean judgement, and another type of fire is lightning. Thunder means action. Stars and locus are men. Often the scriptures speak in parables without saying so. Yahshua also came speaking in parables. When God lightnings and thunders He is making a judgement and taking action. And the list goes on and on.

There's a very good website that has mp3 recordings of the teaching of the Tanach (Old Testamant) that I really like. He goes chapter by chapter, and almost verse by verse. I would suggest you begin with Genesis and work your way through. He's very easy to follow and understand.

I hope you find this website helpful.

Thank you that's exactly what kind of study/audio I was looking for I am sure this will be helpful to me as well. I will have to start with genesis and go through as you suggested.

G-d Bless you.

I hope you enjoy Bradford as much as I did when I first became MJ. If you don't have time to listen to a particular teaching you can find it in text as well, and there are also PDF files to go along with the teachings. Keep me updated if you remember.

OK Thanks

I started listening to the Intro To Genesis I feel I have much to learn on scriptures- myself Growing up in typical christian environment I am weak in the Old Testament/Tenach and an Expert in New Testament. So this will be something I will taking what I learn in prayer and living in my life day by day and I know it won't be something that will happen learning overnight the Tenach

I've been through that series 3 times (the first 5 books anyway, Joshua and 1 Samuel twice, 2 Samuel just once), and I learn something new each time I listen. You'll enjoy how he very often connects to events or passages in the NT. He plans on going through the entire Tanach (they've been doing the study series for about 7 years now and still going).

Oh wow yea i did listen to chapter 1 in the series so far it is pretty intensive i must say although it will be worth it when I look back and see what I Know by Meditating on God's Word.

I have an MP3 Player so i can put the lessons on their too :)
