I miss having a passion for The Lord. I used to but have lost interest in reading the Bible. I have many worries at present health and tiredness. Another time this happened I went to another church to try and find a spark in the Lord again and that happened, but the last time I did that it didn't happen. please may I ask for a prayer for the energy to do this again or somehow get out of where I am spiritually and back seeking the Lord. Thank you for any prayers

I feel weighed down
Sorry to hear that ... apart from health/energy, is there anything in your life that might impede your closeness to God? Beliefs, lifestyle aspects, past mistakes, etc. ?

Instead of fire, seek His "Living Waters". Be blessed

If you lose interests to read the Bible daily, many other Christians have similar experience. While it is good to read the Scriptures, but I believe it is not how often we read, but instead, how we read. If our reading always revolve around the same basic topics, then boredom will set in after a few months or years - which is what happened to many Christians. As well, don't feel guilty about not reading the Bible regularly -- God is not watching whether you are in class (so to speak), whether you read the Word, whether you pray -- so don't try to met an artificial 'legalistic' standard set.

About missing a passion for the Lord that you may used to have: I have seen many Christians that used to be very zealous but later became less so, and this is also normal. Our journey is not a sprint, and not based on feelings; what God wants is for us to keep faith, be light and salt (Christ-likeness) and also share the gospel when we have opportunities.

I'm not here to try to discourage you. I am however, trying to be practical in my thoughts. Sometimes churces might over-emphasize all the prosperity and health. This can leave some believers disillusioned and at times even uncertain. This does not mean their message of faith is wrong, but the testing and suffering may go further than some expect. Some throw in the towel, others double-down and increase their adherence even further. But what you believe can't persist on others faith or declarations. Thus, I would suggest taking a practical approach. getting your answers of faith from the inside. Fellowshipping with God, in prayer, praise and the word is going to make that happen.

I say this only because if you find yourself in this atmosphere of performance it will create tremendous pressure. Pressure that God never intended for you to bear. So lay all your issues before the feet of God. Let Him relieve you of outside expectations and find your individual and personal path to victory. Cut yourself some slack and stop any condemnation that might be hindering your walk. God bless!

I feel weighed down
Also, do you feel just feel bad about not being as zealous as you hope to be? If so, I commented on that in post #5.

Or do you feel weighed down physically? If so, did you change any eating habit, eg stop drinking coffee suddenly? I did that many years ago and one day, I suddenly felt weighed down, I really believe stopping coffee caused a chemical change. Later I drank coffee again.

Thank you everyone for all the advice and thoughts, caring and prayers, it is all greatly appreciated. I'll need to think about what you have all posted. May God bless you

If you need some 'guide' to reading the Bible fruitfully. let me know.

It is not about reading the Scriptures for 15 mins a day to take away something. Meaningful study is more interesting than that, it is about building up knowledge over time. For example: Do we study a biblical event or situation, and ask questions like what, when , why, how did the people feel, what were they thinking.

I heard about reading the Bible every day for a year or 1.5 year to cover every chapter. I don't believe in reading the Bible routinely as if we will forget God if we don't, or to show Him our faithfulness. Instead, we can take time to read the Bible whether it take 5 or 10 years, and I also suggest taking brief concise notes as we journey through the chapters.

We all have had our roller coaster ride of ups and downs from day to day.. There's a time to coast along, and there's a time to peddle. There's a time to flow gently with the stream, and there's a time to paddle. It's great when the ship moves along by catching the wind in the sails, but when there is no wind, it's good to have oars too.
There's a time to ride the wind as an eagle, and there's a time to flap your wings. There's a time to descend, fold your wings, walk and feed on some food to replenish strength to lift up into the heights again.

We all know what it's like when the coasting along slows down even though we still want it to continue. I keep that uplifted joy with me always by frequent thanksgiving unto God.
I maintain the fervor by beginning my day with joy in Him. Saying, This is the day that the Lord has made, I do rejoice and I am glad in Him. I say it even when I don't feel it. I begin reading scripture even when I don't feel any interest to. I read it outloud to myself because that is what Josh.1:8 meditation is.

At such times when I don't feel elated about reading God's word, that's when I double up on speaking scriptures of joy in God. And speaking scriptures of praise unto God.
(applying the following scriptures personally to me)
Jer.15:16 Your words were found, and I ate them (Lk.6:45; Josh.1:8),. And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.
Ps.19:10 Your words are more precious to me than gold, yes more valued than much pure gold; they are (to me) sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.
Pv.22: 17-19 I incline my ears and hear the words of the wise (spoken from my own mouth) and apply my mind to the knowledge of God, (speaking and thinking is Josh.1:8 meditation)., for it is pleasant when I keep Your knowledge and Your wisdom within me that they are constantly on my lips. So that my trust may be in the LORD.

And I also confess the promise of -

Isa.40:31 Those who eagerly look forward to renewed passion for God will be renewed; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.

I'm :prayer: for you to be renewed in your zealousness for God and His word because we all need refreshing from time to time, and to replenish the oil in our lamp that our wick is on fire for God.
