  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys, I need help with something. I have been praying about something for a long time, but nothing is happening. I am not going to give up, I'm going to keep holding on. My question is, how to you ask for something that you "WANT"? It isn't something that I need, I just would like to have it. Is that wrong? God said that he want us to have life and have it more abundantly. I have everything I need, as a matter of a fact, I am doing pretty good in my life right now. I tithe every payday. I help people anyway I can. I deliver food to the elderly. I haven't missed a day of church all last year. I don't know what else to do. I asked for it in Jesus' name just like it says. (John 14:13 - And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.) If anyone can give me any insight on this, Let me know. God Bless!

First of all, maybe God doesn't want you to have that something for a reason?
Second, I would just say, "God, if it is in your will, or it would favor you for me to have (this thing), I pray that you would let me have it, etc."
I hope this helps!

A three year old reaches and opens the sink cabinet, he sees shiny blue pellets (rat poison) and reaches for them, thinking they will taste good, but his father pulls him away.

What we think is good for us, or what we want, is often not good for us and we don't understand why not. Our Father knows best and will choose what to and what not to provide us with. Just trust Him, and if He doesn't give to you the things which you ask, you can rest assured that it means it's something that's not good for you, be it the thing in itself, or the time at which you asked for it. :)

Good plan, Christian.

I'll tell you this. There is something in my life that I lost. I wanted this thing back so bad that I couldn't see straight. I kept praying and praying, in all the ways that you mentioned, and nothing was happening. Until all of a sudden, I asked Him to help me pray for what I need to pray for. Much to my surprise, this request was no longer there and when I tried to pray for it again, I felt selfish. The lesson I had to learn was that even though I wanted it, and prayed for it in His name, it just wasn't what HE wanted. If HE doesn't want it, I don't believe it will happen.

Keep seeking him, brother. He'll never steer you wrong.

I think I got my answer you guys. I realized that I was asking for too much. I wanted two very big things. I wanted a new car, and an apartment. I can afford one or the other, but not both. I already have a nice car that suits me just fine, and I think it is about time to move from mommy and daddy, so I will start apartment hunting. I feel that he was trying to tell me to choose which one that I really needed. I will get a new car another day. I have been praying that God get and Keep me out of debt, so all that would have put me into much more debt than I have now. Thanks guys for listening.
