Hi all, seen a similar post below in the forum on the temptation of porn.
This seems to be a very private matter for some, and many I have found dont like to ask or talk about it, but folks, I am in so much need of advice and prayer on this matter.
Been a Christian just about a year and seem to be failing miserably at it lately simply cause I am falling into the temptation of porn and thoughts.
It is destroying me inside, I feel like Im being a hypocrite talking to God asking Him to forgive me of this sin, and others, only days later to have thoughts and stuff come at me full force and of course fall into it.

Sometimes I wish I was more mature in my walk so I could understand this more and overcome it......I really do.

Jesus, Im tired of playing games, please for myself and all who are struggling with this sin, Im crying to you, please help me and those that want to be more like you, and stop sinning, I dont want this sin to stop me from seeing you someday, you are the reason why I live each and everyday...amen

Amen.

Regarding "I'm tired of playing games", think of it more as warfare:

"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul" (1 Peter 2:11).

"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would" (Galatians 5:17).

---

Re: "I don't want this sin to stop me from seeing you someday", that will only happen if believers stop repenting from and confessing a sin to Jesus after they commit it, for:

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

Re: repenting from a sin (e.g. Acts 8:22, 2 Cor. 12:21, Rev. 3:19), that means to change one's mind regarding that sin, in the sense of having no plans ever to commit it again, knowing that God has made it possible for believers not to sin (Jn. 8:34-36, Rom. 8:2-14, 6:1-23, 2 Cor. 7:1), even if they're tempted to do so (1 Cor. 10:13, 9:27, Rom. 8:13, Gal. 5:16):

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations ..." (2 Peter 2:9).

"... lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen" (Matthew 6:13).

But if, sometime after repenting from a sin, believers nonetheless wrongly employ their free will to commit that sin again, this doesn't mean they hadn't previously repented from that sin or that they as continued believers in Jesus and the gospel aren't saved. What they need to do is repent from that sin again & confess it to God, & they'll be completely forgiven (1 Jn. 1:9, cf. Lk. 17:4).

Satan wants believers to fail to continue to come to Jesus, to think that it's hopeless, that they're just too evil for Jesus, when in fact Jesus is waiting with open arms to forgive them for their sins which weigh down on them so heavily:

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).

Hey, first and foremost, you have a handle on it, you can see it. Secondly the temptation comes from the enemy, so it's him you're in a battle with. Next you need to let God lead you to someone in the church you can be accountable to. Other things you can do, always keep your computer in the open, start recognising the triggers for temption, are they loneliness, tiredness, i.e. start seeing what buttons are being pushed by the enemy. I know if I'm tired the enemy tries to push lust on me, but I simply tell him to get lost, but I'm further along in my walk. The enemy will use anything they can to get to you.

Honesty is a must. My teenage son hands me his laptop every night to remove temptation and reads his bible before he goes into work each day and is devoted to knowing God more. He works at his relationship with God, so you need to strengthen yourself with Him.

Yep, you got it, it's work, so what do you want to do, work at it or let it keep eating you away. God forgives us, but we have to put the work in.

Praying all the best for you and your life,

This is one of the hardest struggles any man (or woman) who got hooked into it can go through. I don't have advise for quitting, or I would give it to you. Regardless of how you feel about it, God's promises concerning your firm standing in him (John 10:28-29, 2 Timothy 2:13) and your eventual purity (Philippians 1:6) remain true. Whenever you quit, it will be by his grace and power. Just walk in obedience to the best of your ability.

If you continue to watch porn you will also continue to have impure thoughts. What you should do is to stay away from this evil of watching porn in the first place. Keep away from it all together.

You are not a hypocrite when you ask God for forgiveness. The devil is the one who is enticing you into this. Just don't allow him to drag you into his trap. The devil is a liar. Don't believe his lies. Instead fill your mind up with God's truth. When ever these thoughts rise up in your mind you need to rebuke them in Jesus name and resist the temptation to watch porn. Its not only Jesus but you also need to play a part in this. You need to keep away from all things that will lead you into this sin and stay away from this type of temptation. We all will pray for you.

Regarding John 10:28-29, it means that saved people will never perish so long as they remain in God's hand, & that no one outside of a saved person can ever take him out of God's hand. But John 10:28-29 doesn't mean saved people are imprisoned in God's hand, that saved people can't wrongly employ their free will to jump out of God's hand themselves, such as by committing apostasy, to the ultimate loss of their salvation (Heb. 6:4-8, Jn. 15:6, 2 Tim. 2:12).

Also, Jn. 10:28-29 doesn't mean God himself can't in the end cast saved people out of his hand, that they can't in the end lose their salvation, if they don't continue in his goodness (Rom. 11:20-22), such as by wrongly employing their free will to commit sin without repentance (Heb. 10:26-29, 1 Cor. 9:27, Lk. 12:45-46), or to become utterly lazy without repentance (Mt. 25:26,30, Jn. 15:2a, Rom. 2:6-8).

Also, Jn. 10:28-29 doesn't mean (as is sometimes claimed) that a saved person's will is kept in God's hand in the sense that a saved person can't wrongly employ his will to the ultimate loss of his salvation. For any such "kept" will would be nothing but a destroyed will; it would make saved people like people who've been lobotomized & drugged & locked up in a cell. Thank God he doesn't do that to saved people, but leaves them as free people with free wills. And because he does, they themselves have to choose each & every day for the rest of their lives to deny themselves, to take up their crosses themselves, & to continue to follow Jesus (Lk. 9:23) to the end. And the Bible gives no assurance every saved person will choose to do that (e.g. Heb. 10:26-29, 6:4-8, Jn. 15:2a).

---

Regarding 2 Timothy 2:13, it means if saved people come to believe not (Lk. 8:13, 1 Tim. 4:1, 2 Tim. 4:3-4, Mt. 13:21), if they come to commit apostasy (2 Thes. 2:3), it doesn't affect God's faithfulness to himself, for he can't deny himself. But he will deny saved people who commit apostasy (2 Tim. 2:12), to the ultimate loss of their salvation (Heb. 6:4-8, Jn. 15:6, Mk. 8:35-38).

---

Regarding Philippians 1:6, it does mean God will complete the work he's begun in saved people. But other passages show he'll do this only if they continue to cooperate with him & work along with him (1 Cor. 3:9, 2 Cor. 5:9, Col. 1:29, Philip. 2:12, 3:12-14), & don't wrongly employ their free will to, e.g., become utterly lazy without repentance, to the ultimate loss of their salvation (Mt. 25:26,30, Jn. 15:2a, Rom. 2:6-8).

I struggled with this as well, but I am happy to say it's been almost 4 months since I have looked at porn. I don't even have any desire to look at it at this point. I was only able to do this with the help of God. The one thing that you have to do, which is the hardest thing, is you absolutely have to deny yourself. When you feel the urge coming on, you have to replace it with something else. Think of it this way, if you are a child of God then Jesus is always with you. If Jesus was standing right there with you when you are about to watch some porn, would you still watch it right there in front of him? That is essentially what you are doing, you have to think of it that way. That's what helped me. When I got that urge, the first thing that would come to my mind was "how would the Lord feel about this?"

When you feel that urge, you have to quickly replace it with something else. Best thing is to pick up the Bible and start reading. Or maybe watch some biblical programs on tv, something to keep you routed in God's word. I promise you, the more you do this the less you will have the urge for the porn. At this point, I really don't think about it much at all. I hope this helps you.

Dear mil06. Let Jesus help you. In Matthew 22: 35-40, Jesus tells a Lawyer:
" The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus tells us: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Very important, mil06. Start by treating all you know and all you meet, as you would love to be treated: kindly and always with friendly words and a helping hand: if needed.
Jesus will give you His Love and His Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower you with His Love, also. Ask Jesus to help you, and accept the help which Jesus gives you. Keep asking God in Prayer, then thank God and share all Love and Joy with all around you. People will treat you the same, Love is very catching: and the Love Jesus/God gives us, is the selfless Love, given without any tags
attached. Your life will be busy and filled with Joy, and gradually you find that you are " Born Again," a different person, and your destroying thoughts will flee from you.
You might stumble and forget at times, but then get up and ask God to forgive you, and carry on helping and loving your neighbour. Jesus our Saviour
will lead you all the way: JESUS IS THE WAY. Love and obey, mil06, and with God on your side, Who or What can be against you? Try it dear, and become
the person which God wants you to be. I say this with love. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Hey! i became a christian not to long ago, and was freed from masturbation( relapsed a few times, but prayed and asked for forgiveness, still i think i am doing well considering how much i used to practise this) but today after about 2 months of no porn.... i watched a porno and masturbated again after years of an unhealthy addiction! i felt really convicted during the process and yeah, really hypocritical after. still i feel i can't truely open up to God about it. But what i did do is install K9 internet filter. while i was was pondering whether to install it and set it up, it i had mixed feelings. One was the temptation and urge to watch more porn, and that was quite strong. Another was, no i'll be ok ill just get off the computer. But then the weakest of my feelings, was "hey just install the thing ok , it may not "Feel" the best option, but it clearly is."so i installed it, set a password that consisted of random didgets and letters, (wrote the password down just to set it up) set the program up, and through the page in the garbage bin out the front that is full of rubbish. Man i felt ABSALOUTLY free from this addiction instantaniously. I felt like i had been being shot at by the devil, but then all of the sudden I had been air lifted to safety by a allied helicopter. Now there is no possible way of returning to internet porn, unless of course i get a new password. which would take a fair bit of effort. Although i felt a great victory, i just know the devil is going to come at me in some more subtle way then before, now that i have takin this out of the question. Hope this helps

I am man who learned discipline before I started my walk with the Lord. I was in the military and had a great dad who taught me great discipline. Pray for obedience and discipline. Strength and guidance.

Lord may you teach, mentor and comfort those struggling with addictions to fleshly lusts and sexual immorality. Amen
