How to Observe the Sabbath

The sabbath as not been abolished. Here is a letter to the pope and the answer (under his blessing) about that question

Is the accusation true that Prostestants accuse you of ? They say you changed the Seventh Day Sabbath to the so-called Christian Sunday : Identical with the First Day of the week. If so, when did you make the change and by what authority ?

Dear Sir:

Regarding the change from the observance of the Jewish Sabbath to the Christian Sunday , I wish to draw your attention to the facts.

(1)That Prostestants , who accept the bible as the only rule of faith and religion , should by all means go back to the observance of the Sabbath. The fact that they do not , but on the contrary observe Sunday , stultifies them in the eyes of every thinking man.

(2)We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith.Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us. We say this church, instituted by Christ to teach and guide men through life, has the right to change the Ceremonial Laws of the Old Testament ; and hence , we accept her change of the Sabbath to Sunday. We frankly say "Yes, the Church made the change, made this law, as she made many other laws, for instance the Friday abstinence, the un-married priesthood, the laws concerning mixed marriages , the regulations of Catholic marriages, and a thousand other laws.

(3) We also say that of all the protestants, the Seventh-day Adventist are the only group that reason correctly and are consistent with their teachings.It is always somewhat laughable to see the Protestant Churches , in pulpit and legislature, demand the observance of Sunday , of which there is nothing in the Bible.

this catholic writer (under the blessing of Pope Pius XI) say that they changed the sabbath , and by so affirm that if you believe that the bible is the only rule of faith , you should do the sabbath. They do not believe the bible as the only true rule of faith and religion. Now why follow sunday the sabbath when some of you believe that the bible is the only rule of faith and religion ? The same people who changed the day of the Sabbath , are aware that if you believe the bible as the only rule of faith and religion , you should do the Saturday Sabbath.

So we have as late as 1934 the Catholic Church say that they changed the day. I have shown that they said that around 1893 as well.

I do not think there is any doubt that it (changing of the sabbath fromSaturday to Sunday) cannot be supported from Scripture.

Ive seen a few post on Hebrews 4 as to why we not need to keep Gods sabbath. What am i missing?

HEBREWS 4

[1] Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of youshould seem to come short of it.[2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.[3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Don’t come up short. Have faith in the WORD. Enter into Gods rest. His sabbath day.

[4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.[5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Yup, the 7th day. That’s His sabbath day alright.

[6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:[7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Some, to whom it was first preached had the spirit of unbelief and did not enter the sabbath rest (Ezek.20). They were destroyed. Do you hear his voice today. Right now. Don’t harden your heart as they did.

[8] For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
[9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

You’ve heard the many say”Jesus is my rest”. Well…verse 8 contradicts that? Anyways the rest (sabbath) remains. Ive heard the many say verse 9 is speaking of the 1000 yr period of rest. That rest has not yet arrived, so how could it remain? Oh well.

[10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
[11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Of course the above verses are speaking of the sabbath. Enter into the rest as God also did. Verse 4. The 7th day. The sabbath.

Ive seen pages and pages written about above scriptures trying to explain that it doesnt really mean what it says.
Just believe what it says and enter into the rest GOD created for us. The rest that sanctifys us and sets believers apart from those who were destroyed in the wilderness (Ezek.20). Don’t harden your heart.

I can understand that.

When God says to "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy...."

It is the only commandment that people want to forget.

Why is that so?

Because it makes people change, it makes them follow a Creator that not only forgives sin but changes peoples lives. Jesus accpets us as we are but does not leave us in the gutter where He got us.

People can have Sunday as their Sabbath and just keep it for a few hours at best. Then the rest of the day is their own. God does not say that. He wants us to keep holy one whole day, not just a few hours at best.

Seems that everyone has lost interest in what God said to "Remember..."

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

After reading these verses and many others of the same message.

Would God's last day followers be Sabbath keepers or Sunday keepers?

Exodus 20:8-11

"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."

Almost the whole Christian world reverences Sunday, did God know that this attempt to change His holy Sabbath would occur?

"And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. " Daniel 7:25

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." Acts 20:28-30

Yes, long ago God predicted that, from within the church itself, misguided men would arise who would attempt to change His holy law.


Is it important to keep the true Sabbath?

people talk about the old law and that it was just for the jews but if the jews would have spread the gospel and not kept it to themselves , NOBODY would have debate the sabbath today because they would have spread the truth about God to non-jews ... Yes God chose the jews , but he chose them so that they could say the truth to others nations. but because they didn't spread it , it appears that it was just for them , but this is how the devils works , he is deceiving many people ...

Isaiah 56:4-7

"4 For this is what the LORD says:

"To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose what pleases me
and hold fast to my covenant-
5 to them I will give within my temple and its walls
a memorial and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that will not be cut off.
6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD
to serve him,
to love the name of the LORD ,
and to worship him,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
and who hold fast to my covenant-
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain
and give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called
a house of prayer for all nations." (NIV)

"4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;

Notice how God is giving the sabbath to the Gentiles as well.

I agree with all you say Symes, but now we have to look at how things are eternally. How do you keep a Sabbath Day when there will be no days? See what I mean? We will live for all eternity, with no counting of days; so we should look at WHAT the Sabbath is: Not WHEN it is.

Remnant

Have a look at what I am writing and see what you think of it.

Colossians 2 seems to suggest that Christ nailed the Sabbaths to the cross. But this refers only to the temporary laws of sacrifices under which there were many Sabbaths. There were eight Sabbath days. Only the weekly Sabbath is mentioned at creation and in the ten commandments. The others are mentioned as part of the feasts and ceremonies of the ancient sacrificial system. When Jesus died, the old sacrificial system died. Each of those days represented something significant that involved the Messiah. The eternal law, represented in the ten commandments, was not abolished. This Sabbath represents what Christ is doing and would be doing for us eternally - therefore it is eternal. He gives us rest from sin and therefore the right to life.

The Sabbath is eternal, it has not been abolished or changed by the new covenant. In fact it is the sign of the covenant and the seal of God. The Holy Spirit is the one who does the sealing by making us obedient to God in heart and deeds. This includes obedience to the Sabbath.

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yes we establish the law." Romans 3: 31. "They ... rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment. - Luke 23: 54-56.

The Sabbath will be in the new earth. For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before Me, said the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain, and it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, said the Lord. Isaiah 66: 22-23 - See Mark 2: 27-28.
