I am wondering how exactly to meditate on Scriptures throughout the day as we go about our activities.

I have memorized parts of Psalm 145 150 103 and can recite them in my mind continuously, but it does not seem to be making a difference because I can be repeatedly thinking it but at the same time my mind will wander. So I am wondering what am I doing wrong.

Also, I want to meditate on the book of Proverbs, do I go about this the same manner? Verse by verse? What is a reliable method to meditate on the Word throughout the day?

I think being familiar with the Bible in all its various sections, makes it easier to think upon it and verses when we see how it relates to our life. We need to distinguish the OT from the NT in meaning as well as just "old" and "new"; and we need to know that the theme of the NT is Jesus Christ and the Bride, etc.

jlsilva, you've made some great choices. I love Psa 145 because it's primarily about Him. It's important to get our minds off ourselves so we can meditate/focus on Him. There are numerous times during our day when we're doing things that just doesn't require all of our attention such as going from one side of the office to the other or walking to our car or loading the dishwasher. One way we can recall Scripture is to utilize those times. Some days I also include Scriptures such as “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and "nothing can separate me from His love" (Rom 8:38-39). But the Psalms are awesome because of the praise and worship to Yahweh while Proverbs contains a lot of Godly advice and insight.

Will be looking back on this thread to see others' suggestions.

Dear jlsilva. In St Matthews, chapter 22, verses 34-40, Jesus told a Lawyer: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus makes this important statement: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Some great Words to meditate on.
Love is the greatest. St.Paul has told us already in 1) Corinthians: "Faith, Hope, and Love abide, these three, but the greatest of these is Love." Love is what God wants from us. How best to follow God`s Commandments? Start by treating all we know and all we meet, as we love to be treated: with Kindness and friendly words, always remembering: though we speak with the tongues of Angels, and have no Love, though we understand all mysteries, and have all knowledge, though we have all Faith and could move mountains, yet have no Love, we are nothing." God will see our sincere efforts to love and care, and God will approve and bless us. And better still, God will know that we love God, because we are following God`s Commandments to Love and Care.
Jesus told us to: " Ask and ye receive," ( Matthew 7, verse 7-8) then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with all around us. ( our neighbour) Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His strenght to love and care.
A Christian`s weapon is Love, with it we overcome all, and change all for the better. It might not work as fast as harsh or unfriedly words, but it will certainly last for ever, Love is the greatest. I say this with love, jlsilva.
Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

i agree with the posts above, relating to the verses and seeing how they apply to your life/lifestyle will prove successful. do not meditate on the words themselves, but what you believe god is telling you specifically in that verse if it stands out to you as significant. whatever you suspect it says or directs you to change behavior is the true meaning for yourself and that is exactly what god is intending to communicate to you.

First, focus on what's applicable to you by identifying scriptures that apply to what goes on in your life. Then, when apprehension creeps inside your head you have the verse(s) programmed in your mind for your defense.

For example:

Economic hardship - "God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

When frightened - "God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind." 2nd Tim. 1:7

At any given time during the day things can be going on that attack our faith. We mostly know what those things are. That's why you equip yourself with scriptures to memorize. It's not like you're constantly reciting them in your head every minute but rather using those that are needed to push back. When good things happen you give time to mediate on praises to God for the blessing or take a moment to meditate on how thankful you are that He has accepted you into His kingdom. Also, make sure when you're given scriptures from me or anyone that you read it for yourself in the Bible. If they don't remember where, find a concordance online then consult your Bible.

Also, learn the Twelve Commandments to memory (two of which Jesus Christ gave us and put higher than the Ten Commandments God gave Moses). The Ten are well documented, so here are the two additions:

(Mark 12:30-31)
1. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.

2. Love others as you love yourself.

The other Ten shall follow.

You need the Holy Spirit's help ask the Holy Spirit to baptise you and fill you and lead you. Notice its called the sword of the SPIRIT? Jesus is the sword and he and the Holy Spirit work together. You need to walk in the Holy Spirit to walk in love. I am in no way pointing you to pentecostalism just because I am a pentecostal (as I am mentioning my belief in the baptism of the Spirit) but rather the bible. Mat 3.11 ... He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire".
