• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior? Are your sins forgiven? Does God's Spirit bear witness with your spirit that you have passed from death unto life? (Rom. 8:16). Have you been born again, and do you really want to live for God? If so, there are five things I would ask you to do;

FIRST-BE SURE OF YOUR SALVATION

How can you know you are saved? By God's Word. The Blood makes you safe, and the Word makes you sure. "These things I have written unto you that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life" (I John 5:13). Not "that ye may hope, guess, or think," but "that ye may K-N-O-W-know."

It does not say, "These happy feelings have I given you." but, "These things have I written." Now, what is written? This; "Him that cometh unto me. I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37). Have you come? Then where are you, out or in? He says He won't cast you out. Then He must have taken you in. Again it is written, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God" (John 1:12). Did you receive Him? Then what are you? His child, are you not?

You see, it depends on God's Word. Your feelings will change everyday. Today you may "feel" saved; tomorrow, lost, but don't go by your feelings. Go by God's Word. Believe what He says. Believe what is written. God's Word never changes, "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom. 10:17). It is when you dare to believe, that the Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you are God's child. Thus you are assured of your salvation.

SECOND-TAKE A PUBLIC STAND FOR CHRIST

I say, a public stand. Don't try to be a secret believer; for it won't work. Unfurl your flag and come out in the open. Confess Christ at every opportunity. Tell OTHERS about Him. Don't hide your light.

"Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed" (Mark 8:38). If you want Him to acknowledge you, then you must acknowledge Him. If you want to grow rapidly, confess Him openly. Do it at once. Don't wait. Start now. There is nothing like it.

THIRD-TURN FROM ALL YOU KNOW TO BE WRONG

As His Spirit indwells, you will be delivered from your sins. For "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (I John 4:4). "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new" (2 Cor. 5:17). He gives you a new nature, a nature that loves righteousness and hates iniquity. The Holy Spirit will enable you. He sets you free. You can now overcome. "Sin shall not have dominion over you" (Rom. 6:14).

But you must choose righteousness and forsake sin. Turn your back on it. Put it away. Set your regenerated will against it. "Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good" (Rom.12:9). "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me" (Ps. 66:18). When you mean business, God will deliver you. All you have to do is to plead the merits of the blood and the power of the name of Jesus. "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body" (Rom. 6:12). Come clean. Be through with sin. "Yield NOT to temptation."

FOURTH-SPEND MUCH TIME IN BIBLE STUDY AND PRAYER

The more you read the Bible the more you will want to read it. If you want to grow in grace, meet God everyday. Have a place for prayer and Bible study. Be a Bible Christian. Never let a day pass without spending time alone with God. "As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that ye might grow thereby" (I Peter 2:2). "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word (Ps. 119:9). If you neglect the Word, you will backslide. If you learn how to pray, you will make rapid strides in the Christian life.

FIFTH-KEEP BUSY IN THE SERVICE OF GOD

Satan always finds mischief for idle hands to do. Therefore, find something to do. Give out gospel tracts. Get into some live soul-winning church. Go where the invitation is given and souls saved, where the message is "Ye must be born again." Don't wait to be asked to do something. Pray about it and get busy. Sing in the choir. Help in young people's work. Attend the prayer meeting. Become a personal worker. Teach Sunday School. Go to the street meetings. Visit the poor, the sick, and the imprisoned. Give your testimony.

That is all, my friend; I need say no more. If you are sure of your salvation, if you take a public stand for Christ, if you turn from all you know to be wrong, if you spend much time in Bible study and prayer and, if you keep busy in the service of God, you will do well. You will be a bright and happy Christian; God will use you in His service, and you will be a blessing wherever you go.

Jephunneh,

excellent post. I just want to add that "asureness of salvation" can be mistaken with arrogance. I don't think anyone can ever be 100% sure they are going to heaven. If you are 100% sure of your salvation, then you are 100% sure you are fine the way you are and need not grow further in Christ. I think this can be a deadly assumption and stunt your spiritual growth.

Now i'm not saying you should always live in fear of being doomed to hell, but this reality should help you grow further in Christ...with that comes even more happiness, peace of mind, humility, patience, understanding, wisdom, and all those good and holy qualities. I just think that this "assurance of salvation" can instill pride and an ego in many people. It's a very touchy isssue though, and thus should be treated as such...I just wanted to bring out the other side.

phew I dunno what to think the first thing I thought when I read 'over' this some time ago was like oh no.
I dunno there is stuff that gets me so confused and far away from God I just can't deal with it.
Like I'm still a bit afraid of reading the bible...thinking about being obedient..(and) hell; I seriously have no clue how one can ever deal with that..
I've learned (well a bit) that with God there are no limits at all and I can
feel him carrying me..
I feel the answer to my questions can only come from Him....
its still not the coolest situation I guess.............

hey GoDowNsMe,

God is with you my sister...He loves you and will guide you...Pop open that bible of yours and read it a little before bed each night or whenever (I like to read my bible at night because I usually have nice dreams if i do :)). You have learned that with God you can do anything and that you can feel Him with you...That is a huge first step. He is knocking on the door to your soul...Reading your bible and acting on it is the next step for letting Him in fully. Go with God!

P.S. I wish I was as thirsty for holiness when I was your age..You're off to a wonderful start!

awww thanks that was soooo uplifting !!! :)
oh around the beginning of may God was just showing me
his love and made so many things clear to me...
(I've been Christian like since I was..7 )
my life wasn't going too well and after that I knew it'd turn everything
upside down....it did and I was so happy and everything..
I just so didn't want to be the same old....poser liar
and everything anymore it would freak me out when
I fell back to my old way of thinking and acting and
pretty much pushed myself to do it right.
I don't think all of it was bad just at one point
I kinda 'broke down' I guess because of many reasons...
theres stuff I just can't go into cause its confusing me so much
and would probably confuse people too
but I so feel God leading me and carry me out he just rocks :):)

I'm very thankful for him working in my life and
yeh I just try to love him and just ..go with him/follow him...

right God Bless ya bro !!!

hey GoDowNsMe,

Please don't be afraid that you could misunderstand the bible. You are much better off reading it and not understanding it entirely, than not reading it at all. Before you read your bible, just take a moment ask the holy spirit to guide you as you read. When you get to a passage that confuses you, take a few moments to reflect on it and ask God to help you see the true meaning....it helps to take a step back and look at the readings as a whole. This helps from taking any one passage out of context...

And also know this; there are not many people at your age even thinking about God, and you have already read your bible in depth, and are thirsty for Him. From barely talking to you, I can already see that God has a wonderful plan for you, and will expect great things from you one day. Remember that quote from the movie spiderman; "with great power, comes great responsibility." Well in the same sense, when God blesses a person with many things, He expects great things from that person. If you have grown up in a relatively nice household, and lead a relatively good and happy life, that in itself is a blessing. God doesn't expect as much from a homeless person for example, yet that homeless person can still be saved through his faith and how he expresses it. Your thirst for God is a product of your faith, which is one of the greatest blessings of all. That in itself says alot. You're in God's hands my friend...let Him lead you. :)

Hi nice post. But are not #2 and #5 the same thing. If you hand out tracts and witness to somebody isn't that the same as confessing Jesus, I think they would know who you were representing. I am not one of these Jesus this and Jesus that type of person, were I live people would just think that I was a religous freak, and avoid me, then how would I be able to witness to them, which your suppose to do. Besides I hardly ever talk because I am way to bashful, so I guess I am doomed. Am I not really a christain because I don't say Jesus every place I go. I can I be a christain if I don't dare to talk to people, its just the way I have always been. I still think both steps 2 and 5 are the same. thanks for your time. God bless,
dmpeace
