Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Use the ftp client to download cookies from the targets computer if possible... paste these in your cookie map!

I am no hacker... do not wish to be one either... i pray that the holy ghost will be my computer's defender!!

Who on earth shares their unencrypted cookies on open FTP? Surely if you do this, you deserve to get all your passwords and personal information stolen. From my point of view, it's like putting a big neon sign out at the bottom of your driveway while you're at work saying "I'm at work. The key is under the flowerpot. There is no alarm. Help yourself to my TV."

Who's giving information on how to hack someone's computer?
Computers don't come with OPEN Public FTP access to the User Directory (where cookies are stored)

I guess that the OP was trying to give information so that people could avoid having their computers hacked, although I really don't know anything about it (seriously, I don't even know what FTP access is). I deleted my original post because I assumed a more questionable motive when it wasn't there.

No prob :)

FYI FTP = File Transfer Protocol.
When transferring information to / from a web server (example when "uploading" a website) some developers will use FTP to give them easy control over where the files go, what access the files / directories have, ect.
Though for quite a few users this is falling away with the "One Click" Installs that a lot of host are using.

While you can set up an FTP server on your home computer to enable remote internet/intranet access to your files, this isn't normally done.

I do not think anyone would want to help themselves to my TV, it weighs about 300 pounds. But TV is getting close to where I will have to trade it in on a LED one of these days. I already have a camera that will only work with a LED screen.
To be honest, nobody would want my TV either. But the point still stands.

Actually, setting up an FTP server from your computer is a very good way to remote transfer very large files directly to another party, and it's pretty commonly done. A better way would be bit-torrent, though (if you could be assured that nobody could worm their way into the P2P network).

Erm... Having basic knowledge of something does not make one guilty... I know how to kill someone with a knife because you stick them with it. Does that mean I killed someone? Nope.

I know that sometimes people upload photos from their iphones and you can use the info that is left on it to find out who the phone is registered to. Doesn't mean I am guilty of it. Most of the so called hacking knowledge is not much more than just knowing your way around loopholes in programming and people can use some really stupid passwords too. Protip, your dog named rover is not a good password if I know you have a dog.

Not sure if troll or just really....

Well, now we know who involved with this crime... They exposed themselves!

They are familiar with hackers software, they are familiar with hacking techniques, thus they are showing all attributes of being involved with atleast some criminal activities

What firesheep does is it looks on open wifi networks for cookies and then it steals them so that you can log in to people's profiles. Can you not think of ANY good reason to know about such programs except for hacking? I'll help you out. It's good to know that such programs exist and how they work so that you can protect yourself against them either by not logging in to your facebook page while at the airport, or by downloading counter programs like Blacksheep.

I know what a DDoS attack is and how it works (it's not hacking by the way), does that mean I'm a criminal?

Or to put it more simply, I know how to rob a liquor store, I even have the tools to do so within arms reach right now. Does that mean I'm going to?
