I have the desire and ability to write and publish Children's Ministry Curriculum, but am not sure how to get started. I have done several internet searches which have come up less than helpful. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

My first question would be do you have a background in teaching and lesson plans? Not a requirement by any means but it will help me in my response to you

Yes I am a certified teacher and currently work as an after school tutor. I have also volunteered in children's ministry for almost 10 years

Awesome!! Then my answer will be a lot less complicated. Hopefully this might be a response you are seeking...
I would make a Long range plan and a short range plan.
Lets set up a scenario. In a year you want to cover Genesis - Deuteronomy to a group of 5/6th graders. I'd say make that the long range plan and have a short range plan of goals for those 5 books. However I'm sure if you want to write a book you would be teaching about all books, and ministering to all different ages.....
I'd say follow whatever lesson planning system your state has in place (my state of South Carolina has the ADEPT system), and just go from there, it's a good starting place as you are already trained in the area. Write your own standards for each book of the Bible that you wish all children to understand and write the plan on each. Just as though you were teaching to your classroom. Include activities and different ways of teaching that can interest kids of all ages and include the 8 Learning Styles as much as you can. I'd also write up ways of independent assessment for the kids so that the Sunday school teachers who will be reading your book will have ways of knowing whether or not the children understood.

Thanks for the advice! I've kind of got the writing process started, what I'm not sure about is the publishing part. I'd rather write for a publisher, than to do free writing.

I know probably isn't what you want to hear, but you should start for free. Start with a blog and give away lessons. Once you have a devout following then you can consider compiling them into a curriculum and selling it.

Any publishing company hires people -- they just don't advertise it widely. Check out
Group Publishing -- they hire writers, marketers, etc. Some will use freelancers and hire a coordinating editor.
Most of these companies come out with new material each year or season -- so even though it seems like everything has already been done, their income depends on coming out with fresh content. The VBS niche is also a strong focus.
You will need to have enough written to show them what you're able to offer them.
